The Death of Superman Lives  What Happened

Q. : What were your major influences like what were your favorite characters when you were a kid start growing up ?

Tim Burton :  "Well -- I  love movies and other -- mainly monster movies and uh Ray Harryhausen movies but i guess the genre that you know, horror movies, monster movies, science fiction films --

I Think my favorite uh obviously my favorite comicbook character was Batman just getting into the sort of [The] Psychology of The Superhero -- that was at that time, you know sort of new territory --

And so when I got involved with Superman, it was just a different sort of -- uh you know -- sort of exploration of that kind of feeling of being different and feeling  like somebody from another planet.

So those kind of themes were always quite strong in old monster movies, and then some of the comic books, you know, the graphic novel came into play the sort of psychology of the characters --

And so obviously, a lot of the comic book characters fit into that kind of mythology of somebody who doesn't you know fit in -- if somebody doesn't belong; and that sort of exploration of feeling like An Alien on a planet and being different and having to sort of hide yourself in some ways and suppress certain sides of yourself, and you know, sort of secretive internal nature of that of that kind of a character....  So that that i think is the thing that was, you know, The Root of it, was the most interesting
