Of course. And Do You Know HOW You Know That?

“I have to say I did come to the 'end' of all magic as I'd known it and been practising for 25 years and, like a man standing blinking and dazed, ears ringing at ground zero of a nuclear blast, I'm trying to find novel ways to explain what has happened and present it to the world in the form of Blank Magic.

The Filth was written from the eye of the experience.
All the really good stuff is still to come.

For anyone who cares to keep up with these things,
(and I'm sure many of my readers are practitioners),
the Qabalistic wisdom I carried home from The Filth Working
is very simple and profound and is expressed by Greg Feely
in the scene behind the flower shop -

The Crown is in The Kingdom,
and
The Reverse is Also True.

And for Enochian magic enthusiasts,
Greg can be read as Nemo tending his garden if you like.

Of course it took me a long time and a lyric from the new Monster Magnet record to finally get
The Real Message of The Abyss :

'Shut your mouth,
you big fucking baby!'

So I will and Horus,
crazy Child-God of The Aeon,
will too
if you tell him

IAMIUHUAMI

Well hopefully you're over that, still hurts I know
but you can't freely climb The Tree
if you confine yourself to The Dirt.

Of course. I feel a whole lot better now
but times were fucked up for a while
and it's shaken me right down to my boots.”

“I guess I have to do The Only Thing I CAN Do — ACCEPTANCE.

And

Forgiveness —

It’s The ONLY Tools We’ve Got Left.

And Evolution

if yer interested in it."

CLARA:
It's no good, Bonnie.
You can't win.

CLARA-Z:
I don't care.

DOCTOR:
Hi! Hello! Hello!

(The two Zygons seize Clara.)

DOCTOR:
Oh, hello! Hi. Hi.
Stop this. Stop this, please.

Let me take both of these boxes away.

We'll forgive, we'll forget.
And the ceasefire will stand.

CLARA-Z:
No.

Kate goes to the red box.

KATE:
Doctor, which of these buttons do I press?
Doctor, which one

Truth or Consequences

Bonnie aka Clara-Zygon
stands at the blue box.

CLARA-Z:
Truth or Consequences

DOCTOR:
This is the Moment
we've all been waiting for.

Make your mind up time!

He goes into American Game Show Host mode

DOCTOR:
One of those buttons
will destroy The Zygons,
Release The Imbecile's gas.

The Other One detonates
The Nuclear Warhead under The Black Archive.
It'll Destroy Everyone in London.

Bonnie.
Bonnie, sweetheart!

One of those buttons
will unmask every Zygon in The World.

The Other One cancels their ability
to change form.

It'll make them
Human Beings for ever

normal

There are safeguards
beyond safeguards.

I did this on a very
important day for me
and this ceasefire will stand.

CLARA-Z:
This is Wrong.

DOCTOR:
No, it's not

CLARA-Z:
You are responsible for all the violence.
All of the suffering.

DOCTOR:
No, I'm not

CLARA-Z:
Yes.

DOCTOR:
No.

CLARA-Z:
Yes. You engineered this situation, Doctor.
This is your fault.

DOCTOR:
No, it's not.
It's your fault.

CLARA-Z:
I had to do
What I've Done.

DOCTOR:
So Did I.

CLARA-Z:
We've been treated like cattle.

DOCTOR:
So what.

CLARA-Z:
We've been left to fend for ourselves.

DOCTOR:
So's everyone.

CLARA-Z:
It's Not Fair.

DOCTOR:
Oh, it's not Fair
Oh, I didn't realise that it was
Not Fair!

Well, you know what?
My TARDIS doesn't work properly
and I don't have my own personal Tailor.

CLARA-Z:
The things don't equate.

DOCTOR:
These things have happened, Zygella.
They are facts

You just want cruelty to beget cruelty

You're not superior to people who were cruel to you.
You're just a whole bunch of new cruel people.

A whole bunch of new cruel people
being cruel to some other people,
who'll end up being cruel to you.

The only way anyone can live in peace
is if they're prepared to forgive.

Why don't you break the cycle?

CLARA-Z:
Why should we?

DOCTOR:
What is it that you actually want

(After a long pause.)

CLARA-Z:
War

DOCTOR:
Ah. Ah, right.
And when this war is over, when you have a homeland free from humans, what do you think it's going to be like?

Do you know?
Have you thought about it?

Have you given it any consideration?

Because you're very close to getting
What You Want.

What's it going to be like? Paint me a picture.
Are you going to live in houses?

Do you want people to go to work?
Will there be holidays?

Oh! Will there be music?
Do you think people will be allowed
to play violins?
Who's going to make the violins? Well?

Oh, you don't actually know, do you?

Because, like every other
tantrumming child in history, Bonnie,
You don't actually know What You Want.

So, let me ask you A Question
about this Brave New World of yours :--

When you've killed all The Bad Guys,
and when it's all Perfect and Just and Fair
when you have finally got it
exactly The Way You Want It --

What are You Going to Do with
The People Like You

The Troublemakers

How are you going to protect
Your Glorious Revolution from
The Next One?

CLARA-Z:
We'll win.

DOCTOR:
Oh, will you? Well, maybe,
maybe you will win!

But nobody wins for long
The Wheel just keeps turning.

So, come on.
Break The Cycle.

CLARA-Z:
Why are you still talking?

DOCTOR:
Because I Want to
Get You to See
and I'm almost there!

CLARA-Z:
Do you know what I see, Doctor?

A Box.

A Box with Everything I Need
A fifty percent chance.

KATE:
For us, too.

Both women have their hands poised
over the buttons.
The Doctor resumes Games Host mode.

DOCTOR:
And we're off! Fingers on buzzers!
Are you feeling lucky?

Are you ready to
Play The Game?

Who's going to be quickest?
Who's going to be luckiest?

KATE:
This is not A Game!

DOCTOR:
No, it's not A Game, sweetheart,
and I mean that most sincerely.

CLARA-Z:
Why are you doing this?

KATE:
Yes, I'd quite like to know that, too.
You set this up. Why

DOCTOR
Because it's not A Game, Kate.
This is a scale model of War

Every war ever fought,
right there in front of you.

Because it's always the same —
When you fire that first shot,
no matter how right you feel,
You Have No Idea Who's Going to Die!

You don't know whose children
are going to scream and burn

How many hearts will be broken!
How many lives shattered!

How much blood will spill until
everybody does what they were always
going to have to do
from The Very Beginning --

Sit Down and Talk!

(sigh)

Listen to me.
Listen, I just, I just want you to think

Do you know what thinking is
It's just a fancy word for changing your mind.

CLARA-Z
I will not change my mind.

Dr. Disco :
Then you will die stupid.

Alternatively, you could
step away from that box,
You can walk right out of that door
and you could stand
Your Revolution down

CLARA-Z:
No! I'm not stopping this, Doctor.
I started it. I will not stop it.

You think They'll let me go
after what I've done?

Dr. Disco :
You're all the same, you screaming kids.
You know that?

"Look at me, I'm unforgivable."

Well, here's the unforeseeable :
I forgive you.
After all you've done, I forgive you.

CLARA-Z:
You don't understand.
You will never understand.

Dr. Disco :
I don't understand?
Are you kidding? Me

Of course I understand.
I mean, do you call this a war?
This funny little thing?

This is not a war

I fought in a bigger war
than you will ever know.

I did worse things
than you could ever imagine

And when I close my eyes
I hear more screams
than anyone could ever
be able to count

And do you know what you do
with all that pain?
Shall I tell you where you put it?

You hold it tight
'til it burns your hand,
and you say this :

"No one else will ever
have to live like this.

No one else will have to
feel this pain.

Not on my watch!"

(Kate closes the lid of the red box and steps back.)

Dr. Disco :
Thank you.
Thank you.

KATE:
I'm sorry.

Dr. Disco :
I know. I know.
Thank you.

(to Clara-Z

Well?

(Long, LONG pause.)

CLARA-Z:
It's empty, isn't it?

Both boxes.

There's nothing in them.
Just buttons

DOCTOR :
Of course

And do you know
How you know that?

Because you've started
to think like me

Clara-Z drops her hand away
from the buttons.

DOCTOR:
It's Hell, isn't it?

No one should have
to think like that.

And no one will
Not on Our Watch

Their eyes meet

Gotcha.

CLARA-Z:
How can you be so sure?

DOCTOR:
Because you have a disadvantage, Zygella.

I know that face.

KATE:
This is all very well,
but we know the boxes are empty now --

We can't forget that

DOCTOR:
No, well, er, you've said that
the last fifteen times

He sonics the memory filter
in the ceiling.

Bang!

Osgood leans an unconscious Kate
against a rack of stuff.

Clara-Z closes the blue box.

Sometimes You Just Need Someone to Tell You What to Do

ATTACK-EYEBROWS :
Tell Me What to Do, Then.
Bill Potts would tell me What to Do.

BILL POTTS :
Do What You Always Do -

Serve at The Pleasure of The Human Race.

The times in your life when you need to turn towards The Spirit of The Father will, by their very nature, necessarily tend to be very few
and far between and relate to a small menu of  very basic insoluble Life Problems

CLARA:
We can fix this, can't we? We always fix it.
DOCTOR: No. (to Ashildr)

But you can. Fix this. Fix it now.
ASHILDR: It, it's not possible. I can't.
DOCTOR: Yes, it is, you can, and you will, or this street will be over. I'll show you and all your funny little friends to the whole laughing world. I'll bring UNIT, I'll bring the Zygons. Give me a minute, I'll bring the Daleks and the Cybermen. You will save Clara, and you will do it now, or I will rain hell on you for the rest of time.
CLARA: Doctor, stop talking like that.
ASHILDR: You can't.
DOCTOR: I can do whatever the hell I like. You've read the stories. You know who I am. And in all of that time, did you ever hear anything about anyone who stopped me?
ASHILDR: I know the Doctor. The Doctor would never
DOCTOR: The Doctor is no longer here! You are stuck with me. And I will end you, and everything you love.
CLARA: Doctor, for God's sake, will you stop?
DOCTOR: Now!
CLARA: I did this, do you hear me? I did this. This is my fault.
DOCTOR: I don't care.
CLARA: Liar. You always care. Always have. Your reign of terror will end with the sight of the first crying child and you know it.
DOCTOR: No, I don't.
CLARA: I do. Listen, if this is the last I ever see of you, please, not like this.
(The Raven caws in the distance.)
CLARA: (to Ashildr) Is there anything you can do?
ASHILDR: I'm sorry. I'm truly sorry, I
CLARA: Time's short. Yes or no?
ASHILDR: No.
(The Doctor breathes heavily. Rigsy is trying not to cry.)
CLARA: Well, if Danny Pink can do it, so can I.
DOCTOR: Do what?
CLARA: Die right. Die like I mean it. Face the Raven.
DOCTOR: No. This, this isn't happening. This can't be happening.
CLARA: Maybe this is what I wanted. Maybe this is it. Maybe this is why I kept running. Maybe this is why I kept taking all those stupid risks. Kept pushing it.
DOCTOR: This is my fault.
CLARA: This is my choice.
DOCTOR: I let you get reckless.
CLARA: Why? Why shouldn't I be so reckless? You're reckless all the bloody time. Why can't I be like you?
DOCTOR: Clara, there's nothing special about me. I am nothing, but I'm less breakable than you. I should have taken care of you.
CLARA: I never asked you to.
DOCTOR: You shouldn't have to ask.
(The Raven caws as it flies along the winding street, and the people scatter, terrified.)
RIGSY: Clara, if I'd known, I'd
CLARA: Don't. Shut up.
RIGSY: But I
CLARA: Really, Rigsy, shut up. If you feel guilty about this, even for one minute, I
(They hear the Raven.)
CLARA: You. Now, you listen to me. You're going to be alone now, and you're very bad at that. You're going to be furious and you're going to be sad, but listen to me. Don't let this change you. No, listen. Whatever happens next, wherever she is sending you, I know what you're capable of. You don't be a Warrior. Promise me. Be a Doctor.
DOCTOR: What's the point of being a Doctor if I can't cure you?
CLARA: Heal yourself. You have to. You can't let this turn you into a monster. So, I'm not asking you for a promise, I'm giving you an order. You will not insult my memory. There will be no revenge. I will die, and no one else, here or anywhere, will suffer.
DOCTOR: What about me?
CLARA: If there was something I could do about that, I would. I guess we're both just going to have to be brave.
DOCTOR: Clara.
(They hug.)
CLARA: Everything you are about to say, I already know. Don't do it now. We've already had enough bad timing.
(The Raven caws close by.)
DOCTOR: Don't run. Stay with me.
CLARA: Nah. You stay here. In the end, everybody does this alone.
DOCTOR: Clara
CLARA: This is as brave as I know how to be. I know it's going to hurt you, but, please, be a little proud of me.
(She touches his cheek. He takes her hand and kisses it.)
CLARA: Goodbye, Doctor.
(The Raven caws.)

FIVES

Our Lady :
Poor Tim Shaw.

The Wannabe Leader Who Has to Cheat Because He Knows He's Unworthy.

See, that's why I know you won't detonate.
Although, you could prove me wrong cos we're all capable of the most incredible change.

We can evolve while still staying true to who we are.
We can honour who we've been and choose who we want to be next.

Now's your chance.

How about it?

TZIM-SHA:
Who are you?

Our Lady :
Yes. I'm glad you asked that again.
Bit of adrenaline, dash of outrage,
and a hint of panic knitted my brain back together.

I know exactly who I am.
I'm The Doctor.

Sorting out Fair Play throughout The Universe.
Now please, get off This Planet while you still have a choice.

TZIM-SHA:
I Choose to Win.

(Tzim-Sha presses an activation button, and a few moments later drops his faceplate and starts to scream in pain.)

Our Lady :

Sorry. I removed those nasty little things from my friends -
Swiss Army sonic, now with added Sheffield Steel

- And I implanted them back in your creature.
Your transference wasn't just data, it was physical.

You got everything transferred to you, including FIVE tiny bombs.

You had a choice.
You did this to yourself.
Go Home.

Our Lady :

They'll be writing operas about our pointless deaths if we don't take drastic action right now.

The Damsel :

We're about to die?

Our Lady :

Oh, sorry, Yaz, I forgot you were there.
All going to be fine.
FIVE systems down, six minutes left on life support.
Are we doing this or what?

Our Lady :

Electromagnetic pulse. Basically fried their systems.
I reckon we've got about FIVE minutes before they reboot and recover.
See? Brains beat bullets. Come on.

Our Lady :
How long did it take you to build this hotel?

ROBERTSON:
FIVE years.
We have FIFTEEN [ 5 +5 + 5 ] of these hotels throughout The World now.

ASTOS:

Two life-pods, portside and starboard.
Maximum FIVE per pod.
We're just within our occupancy limit.

UMBREEN:

Mum's Right.
This is Our Home.
We Stay.

Our Lady :
If you stay, you'll die.

PREM:

Go to the house.
Get anything essential, and get back here.

The Damsel :
I'll help you.

(Manish walks out to meet The FIVE Horsemen.)

The Damsel :

Hmm. Antique lamp.
Section triple nine double FIVE slash seven. [ #57 ]

CHARLIE:

Ten percent?
They want us to be grateful that ten percent of people get to work?
What about the other ninety percent?
What about our futures?

Because without action,
next time it will be seven percent, then FIVE, then one. [ #57 ]

BECKA:
Who dares interfere with this trial?
Thirty FIVE [ 5 X 7 ] witches we have tried,
and still Satan surrounds us.
We shall not be stopped!

The Elder :
Hey, Doc. I've done the old Pendle Witches Walking Trail.
Nobody ever mentioned Bilehurst Cragg.
Never heard of it.

And she's killed thirty FIVE [ 5 X 7 ] people.

Our Lady :
Quite a blast, that.
Haven't had a hangover like this since the Milk Wars of Keston FIVE.

The Elder :
I've always fancied the idea of Norway.
What bit's this?

Our Lady :
Don't know.
(eats some soil)
But twenty FIVE miles away,
[FIVE by FIVE]
there's an alpaca farm,
and gift-shop with a very low TripAdvisor rating. Soil?

The Elder :
I'll give it a miss, ta.

The Damsel :

You had a grandmother?

Our Lady :

I had seven, but Granny FIVE,
[ 57 ]
my favourite, used to tell me about the Solitract.
Cos in The Beginning
- pre-Time, pre-Everything -
all The Laws and elements and nuts and bolts of The Universe were there.

Light, Matter, Maths, and so on.

But they couldn't fit together properly,
because The Solitract was there.

The Damsel :
So what is the Solitract?

Our Lady :
A consciousness, an energy.
Our Reality cannot work with Solitract energy present.

The most basic ideas of The Universe just get ruined.

Think of it like a kid with chicken pox
- nuclear chicken pox -
who wants to join in but always ends up infecting everyone else.

Our Universe cannot work with The Solitract in it.

The Damsel :
Your gran told you this as a bedtime story?

Our Lady :
Only when I had trouble sleeping.

So, what did Our Universe do?

It managed to exile The Solitract to a separate, unreachable existence.

The Solitract Plane.

And suddenly,
Everything Makes Sense.

The Universe could finally work because The Solitract had been removed.

The Damsel :
Hang on.
Are you saying we're now on the Solitract plane?

Our Lady :
I wish I wasn't but I think I am.
I'm scared. Are you scared?
I'm genuinely terrified!

The Damsel :
This is a separate exiled universe that is also a consciousness.

Our Lady :
That's what Granny FIVE said.

A Conscious Universe.

She also said that Granny Two was a secret agent for the Zygons, but she seems bang on with this one.

But why?

Why has the Solitract copied Your World, including Grace and Trine, and built a doorway to Our Universe?

The Damsel :

When you put it like that, it sounds like a trap.

Not-Grace:
No!

The Elder :
What you mean, no?

(Rumble.)

Our Lady :
This World is falling apart because of us still being Here.
You and us are still totally incompatible.
Erik being here may have been manageable, but FIVE of us?

That's a lot more incompatible stuff!
You've gone over capacity.
You need to let us go now.

The Damsel :
More of those mineral samples.

PALTRAKI:
FIVE in total. I remember.

The Damsel :
The objects, why are they shaking?

PALTRAKI:

I remember.

Our Lady :

Yaz, what's happening? Oh. Why are they doing that?

PALTRAKI:
I remember what they did.
FIVE objects. FIVE planets.
One weapon. They stole FIVE planets.

Our Lady :
That's not possible.

She is Black

" Well, I suppose you all know the old story about The Astronaut who went far out into Space, and was asked on his return if he had been to Heaven and seen God.

And he said
“Yes.”

So they said
“Well, What About God?”

And he said,
“She is Black.”

Our Lady :
I've told you about the Solitract, right?

The Damsel :

Literally never heard the word before. Solitract?

Our Lady :

Solitract! It's a theory, a myth, a bedtime story my gran used to tell me.

The Damsel :
You had a grandmother?

Our Lady :

I had seven, but Granny Five, my favourite, used to tell me about the Solitract.
Cos in the beginning - pre-Time, pre-everything - all the laws and elements and nuts and bolts of the universe were there.

The Damsel :
When you put it like that, it sounds like a trap.

— WHITEOUT —

Our Lady :
Er, why is there a frog in here?
(A frog sitting on a simple wooden chair with a three spindle back and splayed legs.)

SOLITRACT:
You said I could stop being Trine.

Our Lady
The Solitract is a frog?
Who talks like Grace?

SOLITRACT:
My own form is endless, but this frog is a form that delights me, as it once delighted Grace.

Our Lady
Ah, and there's me thinking the day had no more surprises left.

SOLITRACT:
Now, please, tell me of your universe.

Our Lady
You think words can do it justice?
It's really big... and incredibly beautiful.
And, apparently, I've just said goodbye to it. But the thing I'm going to miss the most is the people.
My friends.

SOLITRACT:
I will be that.
We will be that.
Friends!

Our Lady
Right, me and a conscious universe masquerading as a frog, BFFs.

(The Doctor's hands start to flicker.)

Our Lady
Whoa! Did you just see that?
Cos I wouldn't be much of a friend to you if I didn't point out you're not in control of this.

SOLITRACT:

You're wrong. This is my plane. I control everything here.

DOCTOR:

So you can see that it's still destabilising?
Me being here is going to kill us both.
You may want us to be together, but it's not working. It can never work.

SOLITRACT:

You're lying to me because you want to leave.

Our Lady
No. I'm your friend.

But friends help each other face up to their problems, not avoid them.

This is... You are the maddest, most beautiful thing I've ever experienced, and I haven't even scratched the surface.

I wish I could stay. But if either of us are going to survive, you're going to have to let me go and keep on being brilliant by yourself.

SOLITRACT:

I miss you.
I miss it all so much.

Our Lady
I know. But if you do this, I promise, you and I will be friends forever.
You have to let me go.

SOLITRACT:

I will dream of you out there without me.

(The Doctor backs away and blows a kiss.)

Our Lady
Goodbye.

(The frog raises a front foot and the Doctor is thrown backwards.)

ISIS Zygons

1515

"That’s another of the precognitions in Finnigan's Wake, the television set in the bar, and there were no television sets in bars until eight years after Finnigan's Wake was published, and no television sets in Irish bars for about twenty years later.

And yet Joyce has a television set in the bar!  But McLuhan got the whole idea of the global village and the effect of media on mind, and the evolution of mind reflected in and being fed back to by the evolution of media.  All that’s in Finnigan's Wake.

Joyce developed that out of Vico, the sociologist who studied how language is - how songs, in Vico’s theory, songs lead to languages and languages lead to war, and every war is really a dance that people have agreed to do without quite realiziing how they get into it, because they’re hypnotized by their language, and they don’t quite realize what they’re doing, but they’re going through this evolutionary pattern that’s more intelligent than they are.

It seems to be some kind of - Burroughs would call it a virus, Vico calls it divine providence.

Some people think Vico is very sarcastic; he was writing while the Inquisition was still in full force. "

Robert Anton Wilson
