Fargo

Everything is back-to-front and recursive.

Cause and effect have gone into reverse.

Time is running backwards.

Where is pancakes house?

Are we square?

Are we square?

No, you're on the square.

Everything is backwards.

Time is now running backwards.

But for everyone experiencing the passing of time, they cannot perceive that it has ceased move to move forwards and thus act in a way that guarantees and locks in their eventual fate.

The first scene in the King Club tells us that something has gone wrong with our understanding of time, but which nobody recognises isn't working in the same way as before. Unless you realise what has actually happened, all your actions and planned intentions will just be all over the shop because cause and effect are no longer reliable, constant laws we can trust to depend upon.

"You already said that"

The musical score is backwards.

The criminal scheme is backwards.

Father-in-Law watching Sports on TV and ignoring husband in his own front room.

"Where is pancakes house?"

Pancakes for an evening meal

The criminals plan to stop in a hotel and get laid on their way TO pull off their criminal caper, rather than having successfully pulled off the heist.

Why is the TruCoat offered as an optional extra feature on the cars when they come already made that way from the factory? I mean, it's not like the dealership can just have that layer of extra finish removed when somebody doesn't want it and just have it put on one of the other cars they keep on display in the dealership.

This makes the man who has bought the car very angry - as indeed it should.

He's actually being told he now has to pay more than what was agreed, due to additional features, which he didn't ask for, which have already been added to the car he ordered and has already agreed on a price for.

This is literally perverse, and he is right to get angry - he calls Jerry "a fucking liar", but he hasn't actually lied or shown any real intention to deceive, he is just trying to apply and follow the rules of a completely perverse system of ecconomics.

Everything is the wrong way round and back to front, and that's why everything ends up being to confused and frustrating, making it seem as though it's just impossible to make and real progress or headway.

"I'm talking about your future... Do you know what a disparity is...?"

Steve Buscemi ALWAYS does and says the absolute worst possible thing, in every instance.

You think "Don't do that - do ANYTHING other than that, but whatever you do, don't do THAT."

And then he does it.

And he keeps doing it, until the obvious and inevitable worst possible outcome ensues, things escalate and gradually get worse and worse until everyone ends up dead.

His accomplice, meanwhile, never says or initiates anything, and merely reacts responding to what lies in front of him to clean up other people's mess that they have created for themselves and that ends up being left in their wake all around them.

People cannot see, which means that they are trying to move forward in particular direction but have no idea where they're going, get lost and destroy themselves.

Jerry can't see clearly because ice has formed on his car windshield, but at least recognises the reality something has gone wrong, circumstances have changed, and re-establishing what the new fundamental, governing principles and relationships previously assumed to be constant between forces and actions, cause and effect now are.

His wife cannot see anything, her perspective on the situation is completely opaque, so she ends up just running around hysterical like a headless chicken and ends up destroying herself - like she doesn't know the floor layout in her own house well enough to know  that if you run for a certain distance from the bathroom with a bag over your head, without first removing the bag, you will probably end up falling downstairs and end up practically killing yourself.

The second and third murder victims try to escape their persuer, but end up running themselves off the road because they can't see where they are going in the dark.

Marge's pregnancy is backwards - or seems a though it is

Why is she getting sudden pangs of morning sickness in her third trimester, when everyone knows, ft they pass after the first?

She realises there is something wrong with this, though - she thinks she is about to barf due to an attack of morning sickness, then realises that she isn't, because that's not the way it works.

Thus, though her intellect, she is able to a

The reasoning behind the notion that lower-denomination stamps are of greater use and therefore better than ones reflecting the current cost of postings a letter is completely backwards and perverse, and the phrase "every time they change the postage", like that happens regularly and all the time is another hint towards the idea of some kind of massive, systematic change in the rules happening every so often , which calls for adjustment to accommodate ourselves to for a while after the flip has occurred.
