Children of a Slain Father-Leader

Hamlet - The 1964 Studio Album Starring Richard Burton

We've all become Hamlets in Our Country,
Children of a Slain Father-Leader
whose killers still possess The Throne.

The Ghost of John F. Kennedy confronts us with the secret murder at the heart of the American Dream.

He forces on us the appalling questions:

Of what is our Constitution made?

What are our lives worth?

What is the future of a democracy where a President can be assassinated under suspicious circumstances while the machinery of legal action scarcely trembles?

How many more political murders disguised as heart attacks, suicides, cancers, drug overdoses?

How many plane and car crashes will occur before they are exposed for what they are?

'Treason doth never prosper,'
wrote an English poet --

'What's The Reason?
For if it prosper, none dare call it Treason.'

The American public has yet to see the Zapruder film. Why?

The American public has yet to see the real X-rays and photographs of the autopsy. Why?

There are hundreds of documents that could help prove this conspiracy.

Why are they being withheld or burned by the government?

Each time my office or you the people have asked those questions, demanded crucial evidence, the answer from on high has always been 'National Security.'

What kind of National Security do we have when we've been robbed of our leaders?

What National Security permits the removal of fundamental power from the hands of the American people and validates the ascendancy of an Invisible Government in the United States?

That kind of National Security, gentlemen of the jury, is when it smells like it, feels like it, and looks like it, you call it what it is: Fascism!

It may become a generational affair.
Questions passed from father to son,
mother to daughter.

But someday, somewhere, someone may find out
The Damned Truth.

We better. We better, or we might just as well build ourselves another government like the Declaration of Independence says to when the old one ain't working - just - just a little farther out West.

Albert's Path

Albert Rosenfield : [to Sheriff Truman]
Now you listen to me. While I will admit to a certain cynicism, the fact is that I am a naysayer and hatchetman in the fight against violence.
I pride myself in taking a punch and I'll gladly take another because I choose to live my life in the company of Gandhi and King.
My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation.
The foundation of such a method... is love.
I love you Sheriff Truman.

[he leaves the room]

Dale Cooper :
[to Sheriff Truman]
Albert's path is a strange and difficult one.

Orson Welles on The Police

“ I have a good deal of experience in crossing borders, and coping with the coppers all over The World.

And it is True you know, that we’re invited in the travel posters, to be tourists, and once we attempt it, we do discover, I’m afraid, that we ‘re guilty until proven innocent.

That being so, I think a word or two about red tapism and bureaucracy, particularly as it applies to freedom of movement might be in order. I’m sure that’s True of all of us.

Think of all of those forms we have to fill out, for example, you know what I mean, by police forms, we get them in hotels, on frontiers, in every country all over the world we’re asked, state your sex, male or female, for example.

Well obviously, I’m a male; I’m a man, why should I have to answer that?

State your race and religion in block letters —
Well, now why should I have to confide my religion to The Police?

Frankly, I don’t think anybody’s race is anybody else’s business.

I’m willing to admit that The Policeman has a difficult job, a very hard job, but it’s the essence of our society that The Policeman’s job should be hard.

He’s there to protect, protect the free citizen, not to chase criminals, that’s an incidental part of his job.

The free citizen is always more of a nuisance to The Policeman that of The Criminal.

He knows what to do about The Criminal.

I know it’s very nice to look out of the window in our comfortable home and see The Policeman there protecting our home, we should be grateful for The Policeman, but I think we should be grateful too, for the laws which protect us against The policeman. And there are those laws, you know, and they’re quite different from the police regulations.

—ORSON WELLES SKETCHBOOK, 1955

I was, for many years, a radio commentator in America. And during that time, of course, I had occasion to speak on a great variety of subjects. And of all those subjects, one of the most interesting stories, one that sticks most vividly in my memory, had to do with a Negro soldier. Here he is. The boy had seen service in the South Pacific, and he was on his way home. Home was in one of the southern states, and he was on a bus, on the way fell ill, and he asked the bus driver to let him off. The bus driver refused, abusively, there was an argument, at the end of which a policeman was called in, who dragged the boy out of the bus, took him behind a building and beat him viciously. And when he was unconscious, poured gin over him, put him jail, charged him with drunkenness and assault. When the boy regained consciousness, he discovered he was blind. The policeman had literally beaten out his eyes. Now, of course, that sort of policeman is the exception. That sort of a policeman is a criminal in uniform. I had the satisfaction of being instrumental in bringing that particular policeman to justice. The case was brought to my attention, and I brought it to the attention of the radio public and we did finally manage to locate this man and bring him into a court of law. But there is another sort of police abuse. You know, I think we all suffer more or less. And we suffer at the hands of good policemen. Decent policemen. Policemen doing their duty. These are all the little petty annoyances; don’t seem very important, but add up to an invasion of our privacy and an assault against our dignity as human beings.

I’m brought in mind of all this because just now I’ve had my passport renewed. That made me think of all the forms and police questionnaires we have to fill out. One of the unpleasant things about your passport, getting a new one of course, is that you have to have a new picture, in which you invariably look older, and sometimes a little worse than older. That’s the idea. I wonder why it is that so many of us look like criminals in a police lineup when we have our pictures taken for a passport. I suppose it’s the unconscious foreknowledge of the scrutiny to which our likeness will be subjected that gives us that hangdog, guilty look. Really, theoretically, a passport is supposed to be issued for our protection. But on how many frontiers in how many countries I’ve handed over my passport with all the emotions of an apprentice forger trying to fob off a five pound note on the Bank of England. Guilty conscience, I suppose. But, there’s something about being ticketed… and numbered that gives the man the feeling of being a piece of baggage or a convict. One can’t help thinking wistfully of our father’s day, when the world hadn’t grown so small. But one could move about in it without being watched so closely. Nowadays, we’re treated like demented or delinquent children. And the eyes are always on us. In our father’s day of course, there weren’t any passports; the only countries that required an entry visa were Montenegro and Russia.

Here I am in the hands of the police; this is an illustration of a story. Happened to me in a country that I think had better be nameless. Enough trouble in the world as it is. First of all, I’d better explain that I carry, or at least carried, what Mr. Roosevelt once described, when I showed it to him, as the cheapest diplomatic passport in the world. In an American passport, I don’t know whether it’s true in an English one or not, but in an American one on the front page, there’s a place that says “in case of death or accident, please notify…” and then you usually put the name of some near and dear one. In my case, I put “in case of death or accident, please notify Franklin D. Roosevelt, Washington, D.C.” But at the time of this story, when I was stopped by the police, Mr. Roosevelt had died, Mr. Truman was president, and an election was coming up in which Truman was running against Dewey. Now, I made the mistake that a great many of my fellow countrymen did, I imagined that Mr. Dewey was going to win. And because I wasn’t very fond of Mr. Dewey, I had written in my passport, “in case of accident, please notify Thomas Dewey, White House, Washington, D.C.” My thought being that the least I could do to devil Mr. Dewey would be to arrive in a coffin some morning. And it was therefore that passport that I handed to the police, at eleven o’clock, one wintry night in the mountains, when they jumped out in the road, in this country, which as I say, will be nameless, and with drawn guns, demanded what it was that I had in my baggage. Now there wasn’t any frontier, there couldn’t be any question of customs, so I asked them, cheerfully, by way of conversation, whether this was a raid on dope-smugglers, or black marketers, or whatever. They didn’t feel like joking, they said, “It is not for you to converse with the police. Open your bag.” And I said, “Well, I’m afraid to, cause the bag will blow up.” And they asked me what I meant by that and I explained that I had an atom bomb, a small one, in the bag, so wired to the catch that if you opened the bag, there’d be a dreadful explosion. “Why?”

I said I was going to La Scala, and I didn’t like the opera, and I was angry at the management and I was going to make an outrage, and that was what I had in my bag. And they said you mustn’t joke with the police, and the argument went on for some time, very unpleasant, ant it got to be about two in the morning, one of those long, drawn-out practical jokes that you regret, and finally, they got around to looking at my passport. And I was of course, grateful, most grateful, that they did, because when they saw the name, Thomas Dewey, they said, “Oh, excuse us, Mr. Dewey, please continue.” And I don’t know quite what that story illustrates, except that it shows that a passport does have its purpose. I don’t want to think from that story that I am an anarchist. I’m against the police on principle, or that I believe in fighting them by practical jokes. Much less by lawlessness, just the contrary.

Now, I know I was wrong to make all that trouble for those police, in the mountains of that nameless country, but you see, I do a lot of traveling. I’ve been traveling all my life, as a matter of fact. I was born in America, but raised partly in China, and sent about the world, a good bit before the war, and a great deal during it, and even more afterwards. I have an office in one country, and a studio in another, the last film for example, was made in four countries. So I have a good deal of experience in crossing borders, and coping with the coppers all over the world. I’m sure that true of all of us. Think of all of those forms we have to fill out, for example, you know what I mean, by police forms, we get them in hotels, on frontiers, in every country all over the world we’re asked, state your sex, male or female, for example. Well obviously, I’m a male; I’m a man, why should I have to answer that? State your race and religion in block letters; well, now why should I have to confide my religion to the police? Frankly, I don’t think anybody’s race is anybody’s business. I’m willing to admit that the policeman has a difficult job, a very hard job, but it’s the essence of our society that the policeman’s job should be hard. He’s there to protect, protect the free citizen, not to chase criminals, that’s an incidental part of his job. The free citizen is always more of a nuisance to the policeman that the criminal. But the regulations do pile up. Forms keep coming in. We keep being asked to state our grandmother’s father’s name, in block letters, and to say whether we propose to overthrow the government, in triplicate, why, and all that sort of thing. But you see, the bureaucrat, and I’m including the bureaucrat with the police, as part of one great big monstrous thing, the bureaucrat is really like a blackmailer. You can never pay him off, the more you give him, the more he’ll demand. If you fill in one form, he’ll give you ten. Now what are we going to do about it? Obviously, if we go on giving into this thing, well, you say, just a minute, you say for example, why shouldn’t we give in to it, why should we make trouble for the policeman? Well, the truth is, why should the policeman make trouble for us, why should he ask these things that are stated quite clearly in our passport? Our passport does tell everything the policeman needs to know. Why should we make trouble, well, we don’t, because we don’t want to get into trouble with the police. We’re told that we should cooperate with the authorities. I’m not an anarchist, I don’t want to overthrow the rule of law, on the contrary, and I want to bring the policeman to law.

Obviously, individual effort won’t do any good. There’s nothing an individual can do about the protecting the individual in society. I’d like it very much if somebody would make a great big international organization for the protection of the individual. That way, there could be offices at every frontier. And whenever we’re presented with something unpleasant, that we don’t want to fill one of these idiotic questionnaires, we could say “Oh no, I’m sorry, it’s against the rules of our organization to fill out that questionnaire.” And they’d say “Ah, but it’s the regulations,” and we’d say, “Very well, see our lawyer,” because if there were enough of us, our dues would pay for the best lawyers in all the countries of the world. And we could bring to court these invasions of our privacy, and test them under law. It would nice to have that sort of organization, be nice to have that sort of card. I see the card as fitting into the passport, a little larger than the passport, with a border around it, in bright colors, so that it would catch the eye of the police. And they’d know whom they were dealing with. Something like this. The card itself should look rather like a union card, I should think, a card of an automobile club. And since its purpose is to impress and control officialdom, well, obviously, it should be as official looking as possible. With a lot of seals and things like that on it. And it might read something as follows: This is to certify that the bearer is a member of the human race. All relevant information is to be found in his passport. And except when there is good reason for suspecting him of some crime, he will refuse to submit to police interrogation, on the grounds that any such interrogation is an intolerable nuisance. And life being as short as it is, a waste of time. Any infringement on his privacy, or interference with his liberty, any assault, however petty, against his dignity as a human being, will be rigorously prosecuted by the undersigned, I.S.P.I.A.O. That would be the International Association for the Protection of the Individual Against Officialdom. If any such outfit is ever organized, you can put me down as a charter member.

CULTURAL REVOLUTION

“Hence a man’s reaction to Monarchy is a kind of test. Monarchy can easily be ‘debunked’; but watch the faces, mark well the accents, of the debunkers.

These are the men whose tap-root in Eden has been cut: whom no rumour of the polyphony, the dance, can reach – men to whom pebbles laid in a row are more beautiful than an arch.

Yet even if they desire mere equality they cannot reach it.

Where men are forbidden to honour a King, they honour millionaires, athletes, or film-stars instead: even famous prostitutes or gangsters.

For spiritual nature, like bodily nature, will be served; deny it food and it will gobble poison.

And that is why this whole question is of practical importance.”

— C.S. Lewis

If You Are a Young Man and You're Not Being Admired by an Older Man, You're Being Hurt

“ It's not time to make a change
Just relax, take it easy
You're still young, that's your fault
There's so much you have to know

Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy.”

— Father and Son.

Christopher Reeve Talks About Marlon Brando

“ And it’s so strange, that men need blessing from older men.

Robert Moore, I heard him say in a tape,
“If you’re a young man, and you’re not being admired by an older man, you’re being hurt.”
I like that a great deal.

So that many women bless young men, but the man still needs a blessing from an older man.

You know, I heard Robert Moore say it to a group of men:

“How many of you have admired a younger man in the last two weeks, and told him so?”

Silence.

“How many of you were admired by older men when you were young?”

Silence. Then he said that sentence,

“If you are a young man and you’re not being admired by an older man, you’re being hurt.”

You. I have a package for Operations. Where is it?

WESLEY:
End of the corridor, room on your right. One oh four.

(The seven foot tall man bumps Wesley as he walks between him and Mordock)

WESLEY:
Excuse me.

RONDON:
You blocked my path. you Bulgallian sludge rat!

WESLEY:
I'm sorry, it was an honest mistake. I apologise.

CHANG: Is there a problem here, gentlemen?

WESLEY: No, sir, I -
RONDON:
How dare you! I am Rondon, you despicable Melanoid slimeworm! Liar!

WESLEY:
Who do you think you're bullying?
You bumped into me. It was your mistake.
You were at fault. Do you want this to become violent?

RONDON:
Friend. I like you.

(Rondon leaves, smiling)

MORDOCK:
A very strange reaction.

WESLEY:
Not really.
When he raised his hand, I saw that it was webbed.

WESLEY: Zaldans are infuriated by courtesy. They view it as a form of phony social behaviour, designed to cover true feelings.

You handled that particular incident very well.

MORDOCK:
Was this incident deliberate?

Yes. Not all tests are announced, or what they appear to be.

Signs of The Baneocracy

In 1784, Vincennes was closed, and The Marquis De Sade was transferred to the Bastille.

The following year, he wrote the manuscript for his magnum opus Les 120 Journées de Sodome (The 120 Days of Sodom), which he wrote in minuscule handwriting on a continuous roll of paper he rolled tightly and placed in his cell wall to hide.

He was unable to finish the work; on 4 July 1789, he was transferred “naked as a worm” to the insane asylum at Charenton near Paris, two days after he reportedly incited unrest outside the prison by shouting to the crowds gathered there,
“They are killing the prisoners here!”

Sade was unable to retrieve the manuscript before being removed from the prison.

The storming of the Bastille, a major event of the French Revolution, occurred ten days after Sade left, on 14 July.

To his despair, he believed that the manuscript was destroyed in the storming of the Bastille, though it was actually saved by a man named Arnoux de Saint-Maximin two days before the Bastille was attacked.

It is not known why Saint-Maximin chose to bring the manuscript to safety, nor indeed is anything else about him known.

In June 1780, weary of the failed prosecution of the war in North America, and convinced that the ministry of Lord George North would bring eternal ruin to his dreams of permanent empire, Lord Shelburne, through the East India Company and its allied Baring Bank, bankrolled a Jacobin mob to descend upon London, ostensibly in protest over the granting of Irish reforms.

The so-called Irish reforms amounted to little more than forced conscription of Irishmen into the British Army to fight in North America--a move Shelburne hoped would also defeat the pro-American republican movement inside Ireland that had nearly launched its own revolt against Britain in 1779.

Led by Lord George Gordon, the Protestant rabble stormed Westminster, sending parliamentarians and lords alike down flights of stairs, out windows, and to the hospitals.

For eight days, London was ransacked, culminating in the storming of the Newgate Prison and the freeing of all the prisoners, who joined in the assault on the Parliament building.

Lord Shelburne, as head of the interior committee of the House of Lords, personally ensured the maximum terror by delaying the reading of the Riot Act (which would have called out the Home Guard) until violence had spread to every corner of the city.

When the flames subsided, the ministry of Lord North was in ashes as well.

North resigned as prime minister, and within months, Shelburne was himself in the new Rockingham cabinet as foreign secretary for the Northern District, subsuming the North American colonies.
From that post, he would be the principal negotiator in Paris across the table from Benjamin Franklin.

A postscript on Lord Gordon, Shelburne's agent provocateur:
After a brief stay in the Tower of London, foreshortened by Shelburne's personal intervention with the crown, Lord Gordon made off to friendlier ground in the Netherlands, where, to the astonishment of his Scottish Presbyterian cronies, he became a convert to Jewish cabbalism, taking the name Israel Bar Abraham.

He shortly thereafter surfaced in Paris as an occult adviser to Marie Antoinette, and from that position participated in Shelburne's intrigues against the French Bourbons.

The Jacobin insurrection in Paris during 1791-93 was a replay on grander scale of the earlier Shelburne-instigated Gordon Riots, down to the storming of the Bastille prison and the unleashing of the criminals.

The Problem That Confronts Us is SIN

"America, and The World, has a Sin Problem." -- Why....? Because All Lif...

"If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door."

Well, I looked at lots of translations for this.
Actually, the next line is,

"And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him."

Alex :
No. No! NO!

Stop it! Stop it, please!

I beg you! This is sin!
This is sin! This is sin!

It's a sin, it's a sin, it's a sin!

Dr. Brodsky :
SIN?
WHAT’S ALL THIS ABOUT SIN?

Alex :
That! Using Ludwig van like that!
He did no harm to •anyone•.
Beethoven just wrote music!

Dr. Branom :
Are you referring to the background score...?

Alex :
Yes!!!

Dr. Branom :
You've heard Beethoven before?

Alex :
Yes!!!

Dr. Brodsky :
So, you're keen on music?

Alex :
YES!!!

[ Here comes the Rational-Liberal Torture Justification]

Dr. Brodsky :
Can't be helped.
Here's The Punishment Element perhaps.

Yes. What God actually says is something like this… "Things aren’t going so well for you, but if you were behaving properly, they would. But, instead, this is what you’ve done. Sin came to your door, and sin means to pull your arrow back and to miss the target. Sin came to your door. But he uses a metaphor. The metaphor is something like, "Sin came to your door like this sexually aroused cat-predator thing, and you invited it in. And then you let it have its way with you."

It’s like you entered into a creative — he uses a sexual metaphor. "You entered into a creative exchange with it, and gave birth to something as a consequence.

What you gave birth to, that’s Your Life. And you knew it.

You’re self-conscious, after all. You knew you were doing this. You conspired with this thing to produce the situation that you’re in.

Jung said something similar about the Oedipal mother situation. What he said was very politically incorrect. Of course, every single he wrote was politically incorrect. That’s how you could tell that he was a thinker, by the way. He talked about the unholy alliance between hyper-dependent children and their mothers. He said, well, it’s actually—Freud thought about it as a maternal thing. I’m not putting Freud down. Freud mapped out the Oedipal situation brilliantly. I’m not putting Freud down. But, you know, Jung was taking the ideas and expanding them outward. He said that there as actually an unholy alliance between a hyper-dependent child and an Oedipal, over-dependent mother. The alliance was, the mother would always offer—so maybe the kid is supposed to go off and do something that would require a little bit of courage and effort. The mother says, well, are you sure you’re feeling well enough to do it? And then the child could say, yes, or the child could say no. But the thing is, the child made the damn decision, too. You might think, well, that’s pretty harsh. But just because children are little, that doesn’t mean they’re stupid.

You don’t know children if you don’t know how children know how to manipulate. They are staggeringly good at that. They’re studying you nonstop, trying to figure out, A, what you’re up to, and B, how they can get what they want in the way that they want it. They can play a manipulative game, no problem, especially if they’re well schooled in it. It’s sort of like that. Maybe the mother is a little timid and a little inclined to over-protect, and maybe the child is a little manipulative, and a little willing to not take that courageous step out into the world, and to regress into infantile dependency, instead. Then you get a terrible dynamic building across time that is like a vicious circle, or like a positive feedback loop. It just expands and expands and expands. Sometimes, in families, you see a hyper-dependent child and a perfectly independent child, and the same mother. Mothers are very complex, and mother for child A and mother for child B are not the same mother, even if they happen to be the same human being. The literature’s quite clear on that, but you get my point.

God’s idea was that, not only are you not doing well, but you’re not doing well because you’ve actually really spent a lot of work figuring out how to not do well. This is like creative effort on your part. If you want to read about truly malevolent people, you could start with the Columbine killers. They left some very interesting diaries behind. I would recommend them. There’s plenty of serial killers you could read about, and the people who’ve really gone out and done dark things. I’ve read more than my fair share of that sort of thing, and I understand it quite well. If you really want to have your countenance fall and be wroth, 10 years of brooding on your own catastrophe, sort of alone, and letting your fantasies take shape, and egging them on, allowing them to flourish and, let’s say, take possession of you…That’s exactly the right way to think about it. That will get you somewhere like this. There are more people who are like that than you think, and you’re more like that than you think.

So, Cain is obviously not very happy about this whole answer. The last thing you want to hear if your life has turned into a catastrophe and you take God to task for creating a universe where that sort of thing was allowed, is that it’s your own damn fault, and that you should straighten up and fly right, so to speak, and that you shouldn’t be complaining about the nature of being. But that is the answer he gets. Then what happens? Well, we have to infer that, if Cain was angry before, he’s a lot more angry now. Of course, that’s exactly what the story reveals.... "

World In Action - Violence With Violence

Documenting the increasing racial violence in Britain, concentrating on the British National Party (BNP) and their opposition in the form of the Anti-Nazi League (ANL) and the Anti-Racist Alliance (ARA).

Examines the forms of violence, arson attacks, murders and vandalism attributed to the BNP. Then examines the rivalry and use of violent tactics by the anti-racist groups, in the light of the Welling riots in September 1993. Includes comments from families of murdered black youths who claim that the anti-racist parties hijacked their campaigns for justice for their own political ends.

Also looks at Youth Against Racism in Europe (YRE) which has a 25-member `away team' which can cause confrontation and violence. Comments and interviews come from Mark Wandworth, National Secretary of the ARA; Ken Livingstone MP; Paul Holborow, national organiser of the ANL; Gary McFarlane ANL organiser; Deputy Assistant Commissioner David Osland of the Metropolitan Police; Paul Heron organiser of the YRE; Peter Kilfoyle MP; Richard Adams father of murder victim Rolan Adams; Ramesh Sharma uncle of murder victim Rohit Sharma; and Doreen Lawrence mother of murder victim Stephen Lawrence.

You Stay Like This, Until You Stand

Jordan Peterson - When Compassion Kills

My Left Foot, adapted in 2 lines for The Dark Knight Rises :

" This vertebra, protruding from your back, it has to be put back.

[suddenly he punches Bruce hard in the back making Bruce scream in agony]

You stay like this, until you stand. "

RED HATS

“These evil sorcerers, dugpas, they call them, cultivate evil for the sake of evil and nothing else.

They express themselves in darkness for darkness, without leavening motive.

This ardent purity has allowed them to access a secret place of Great Power, where the cultivation of evil proceeds in exponential fashion. And with it, the furtherance of evil's resulting power.

These are not fairy tales, or myths.

This Place of Power is tangible, and as such, can be found, entered, and perhaps, utilised in some fashion.

The dugpas have many names for it, but chief among them is The Black Lodge... But you don't believe me, do you?

You think I'm mad. Overworked.

Go away.”

"Once upon a time, there was a place of Great Goodness, called The White Lodge.

Gentle fawns gamboled there amidst happy, laughing spirits. The sounds of Innocence and joy filled the air. And when it rained, it rained sweet nectar that infused one's heart with a desire to live life in Truth and Beauty.

Generally speaking, a ghastly place, reeking of Virtue's sour smell.

Engorged with the whispered prayers of kneeling mothers, mewling newborns, and fools, young and old, compelled to do good without reason ...

But, I am happy to point out that our story does not end in this wretched place of saccharine excess.

For there's another place, its opposite: A place of almost unimaginable power, chock full of dark forces and vicious secrets.

No prayers dare enter this frightful maw.

The spirits there care not for good deeds or priestly invocations, they're as likely to rip the flesh from your bone as greet you with a happy "good day."

And if harnessed, these spirits in this hidden land of unmuffled screams and broken hearts would offer up a power so vast that its bearer might reorder The Earth itself to his liking.

Dugpas (Tib.). Lit., “Red Caps,” a sect in Tibet. Before the advent of Tsong-ka-pa in the fourteenth century, the Tibetans, whose Buddhism had deteriorated and been dreadfully adulterated with the tenets of the old Bhon religion,—were all Dugpas.

From that century, however, and after the rigid laws imposed upon the Gelukpas (yellow caps) and the general reform and purification of Buddhism (or Lamaism), the Dugpas have given themselves over more than ever to sorcery, immorality, and drunkenness.

Since then the word Dugpas has become a synonym of “sorcerer”, “adept of black magic” and everything vile. There are few, if any, Dugpas in Eastern Tibet, but they congregate in Bhutan, Sikkim, and the borderlands generally.”

“I had a vision of a world without Batman —

The Mob ground out a little profit and The Police tried to shut them down one block at a time.

And it was so... boring

I've had a change of heart : —

I don't want Mr. Reese spoiling everything, but why should I have all the fun?

Let's give someone else a chance.

If Coleman Reese isn't dead in sixty minutes,
Then I blow up a hospital.”

SACRED + UNTOUCHABLE

And he smote the Men of Bethshemesh, because they had looked in The Ark of The LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.

And The Men of Bethshemesh said, 'Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? and to whom shall he go up from us?'

And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjathjearim, saying, 'The Philistines have brought again The Ark of The LORD; come ye down, and fetch it up to you.'

" So I want to start with a story from the Old Testament.

There’s a scene in the Old Testament when the ancient Hebrews are moving the Ark of the Covenant.

The Ark of the Covenant was a device that was manufactured in order to contain

The Word of God.

OR
"A Radio for Talking to God"
(if you're into that)

And there was a rule among the ancient Hebrews which was :

“You are NOT to touch The Ark of the Covenant NO MATTER WHAT

And there’s a story in the Old Testament where the bearers of the Ark of the Covenant (they used to carry it), the bearers of the Ark of the Covenant trip and a man reaches out to steady it and when he touches it,

** SMITE !! **

God strikes him DEAD.

And modern people look at a story like that and the first thing they think is  :

“That seems a little bit harsh on the part of God, given that the man was attempting to do something that he believed was good.”

But what the story was designed to indicate, in my opinion, is that  --

There are certain things that you touch at your peril, regardless of your intentions.

And those things that you touch at your peril, regardless of your intentions, most cultures regard as Sacred, as Untouchable.

I want to make a case for you today that those things exist and also WHY they exist and why it’s necessary for you to KNOW that they exist.

I would also say that if you’re educated  educated in a university, especially with regards to The Humanities (which are in some conceptual trouble at the moment), what essentially happens to you is that you are introduced in a relatively secular way to the concept of The Sacred.

You are here, in The University, to learn about
The Eternal Values of Humankind.

And I think that people who tell you that  those values Do Not Exist or that They’re Endlessly Debatable, do you an UNBELIEVABLE Disservice. "
