How Rick Grimes Became Darth Vader

You Have to let go of both The Fear of Failure AND The Desire for Succeess
(Which, not-coincidentally, also involves letting go of The Desire for Failure AND The Fear of Success)

Darth Vader is Not a Person;
 —
Darth Vader is a Spirit

"Well, look at that.
Dawn is breakin'.
It's a Brand-New Day, Rick!

[Chuckles

I want you to think about
What Could Have Happened...

Think about What Happened -

And think about
What Can Still Happen.

"Lonely, Solitary."
Carl Grimes is Wiser Than His Father —
Because He Only Has One Eye

He locks his girlfriend Enid in a closet to keep her safe from an Evil neither could yet know or comprehend, and save her life while he and his Father and the warriors of The Tribe ride our and sally forth to face

The Worst Thing in The World.

But immediately afterward, he lets her out, explains the reason for his actions, which she acknowledges and accepts.

And then,
He lets her go Her Own Way,

and thereafter

Contends with her as an Equal.

Carl :
(Speaking Directly to his Unconscious Dad's Unconscious)

I killed three walkers.

(exhales

 They were at The Door.
They were gonna get in, but I lured them away.

I killed them.
I saved you.
I saved you.

I didn't forget while you had us playing farmer.

I still know How to Survive.

 Lucky for us.
I don't need you anymore.
I don't need you to protect me anymore.

I can take care of myself.

You probably can't even protect me anyways.
You couldn't protect Judith
You couldn't protect -

(sighs

Hershel or Glenn or Maggie.
Michonne, Daryl, or Mom.

You just wanted to plant vegetables.

You just wanted to hide.
He knew where we were and you didn't care
You just hid behind those fences and waited for...

(sighs

They're all gone now.

Because of You!
They counted on you!
You were their Leader!

(sniffles

But now
You're Nothing.

(sniffles

(sighs

(food bags rustle)

I'd be fine if you died.

(grunts

Damn it.

Rick:
You shouldn't have risked it, going out there like that.

It's dangerous.

Carl:
I was careful.

(scoffs)

Rick:
It's good that you found more food.

Carl:
I found even more.
But I ate it.

Rick:
What was it?

Carl:
112 ounces of pudding.

(chuckles)

Rick:
I know we'll never get things back to the way they used to be.

What? I only clung to that for you.

For Judith.
Now She's gone.
And you, you're a Man, Carl.

You're a Man.

I'm sorry.

Carl:
You don't need to be.

Dark Ages Monastacism : It's The Men Who Will Bring Civilisation Back Again

I say,
'Civilisation, yes!'

Paglia
What Will Happen is -

 It’s The Men. . .

The Men will reconstruct Civilisation while The Women cower in the houses and have The Men go out and do all The Dirty Work.

That’s what’s going to happen again

Only Men Will Bring Civilisation
Back Again.

Grandpa Fred
Creature —
What is it That You Want?

Brain :
Fred, what we want is, I think, what everyone wants,
and what you and your viewers have:
Civilisation.

Grandpa Fred:
Yes, but what sort of Civilisation are you speaking of?

Brain :
The niceties, Fred.

The fine points:
Diplomacy, Compassion,
Standards, Manners,

Tradition...

That's what we're reaching toward.

Oh, we may stumble along the way, but Civilization, yes.

The Geneva Convention,
Chamber Music,
Susan Sontag.

Everything Your Society has worked so hard to accomplish over the centuries,
That's what We aspire to -

We Want to be Civilised.

[a Gremlin with a beanie cap acts goofy next to Brain]

Brain :
You take a look at this fellow here.

[Brain shoots the Gremlin in the head. The Gremlins in the bar laugh. Grandpa Fred and Kujitsu leave]

Brain :
Now, was that Civilised?
No, clearly not.
Fun, but in no sense civilised.

Now, bear in mind, none of us has been in New York before.

There are the Broadway Shows -
We'll have to find out how to get tickets.

There's also a lot of street crime,
but I believe we can watch that for free.

We want The Essentials.

Dinettes. Complete bedroom groups.

Convenient Credit,
even though we've been turned down in The Past....

Michonne:
What-- what are you doing?
Rick! Rick!

( walkers snarling )
( grunting )

Michonne:
Rick's out There.

Denise Didimus,
The Twin :
[ performing surgery ]
Hold on.

Michonne:
He needs my help.

Denise Didimus,
The Twin :
Just one more suture.

Michonne:
But he's out there.

Denise Didimus,
The Twin :
 This is His Son.
Give me a Second.

Aaron,
The Unarmed,
Incompetent Prophet :
He's taking them all on.

Michonne:
We have to go get him.

Aaron,
The Unarmed,
Incompetent Prophet :
What?

Michonne:
We have to. This is it.

Denise:
Okay, got it.

Knock 'em away.
Drive 'em down.
We can beat 'em.

We can beat 'em!

Rick, The Lionhearted :
Drive 'em back. That's it.
We can do this together!

(Judy Christ Crying

Will you take her?

Of course.

Come with me. Okay, okay. Thank you. It's okay.

Villager :
Gabriel. What are you doing?

Fr. Gabriel,
Warrior-Priest :
We've been praying... together.
Praying that God will save Our Town.
Well, our prayers have been answered.

God will save Alexandria...
Because God has given us the courage
to save it ourselves.

Guys, it's thinning out there in front.

We need to get out there.
Rick's making A Stand

Eugene,
The Natural Coward:
How's that?

Rosita Espinoza,
You Are Damn-Near Perfection :
He's Out There fighting Them
with Michonne and some others.

Carol,
The Mom :
It's time. Up the alley. I'm going.
Denise is safe.

Tara :
Did you see her?

Carol,
The Mom :
Yeah, she made it to the infirmary.
I'm gonna go help Rick.

Morgan,
Enkidu, The First Friend
Spirit of The Wilderness :
I'm going, too.

Tara:
I'm with you.

Rosita Espinoza,
You Are Damn-Near Perfection :
All right, me, too.

Eugene,
The Natural Coward:
Right behind you.

Rosita Espinoza,
You Are Damn-Near Perfection :
Eugene, you don't have to.

Eugene,
The Natural Coward:
That's incorrect. I do
No-one gets to clock-out Today.

And, Hell - This is a Story People are Gonna Tell.

Yelling at a Fool.

Fr. Gabriel,
Warrior-Priest :
Is that for you... or Negan?

Rosita Espinoza :
It's for him.

Fr. Gabriel,
Warrior-Priest :
How will you do it?

Rosita Espinoza :
I'll pull the trigger.

Fr. Gabriel,
Warrior-Priest :
They'll kill you.

Rosita Espinoza :
As long as he goes first.

Why do you have to die?

Rosita Espinoza :
Because he has to.

Fr. Gabriel,
Warrior-Priest :
I agree. But...
...Why do you?
There's, uh... ...No need to lie to me if...
this is our last conversation.

Rosita Espinoza :

If Abraham was alive, we could fight.
If Glenn was, Maggie's kid would have a Father.
Michonne and Carl can fight.
They have Rick.
Aaron has Eric.
Eugene Knows Things.
Daryl's Strong.

Fr. Gabriel,
Warrior-Priest :
What about Sasha?
Look at me, Rosita.
It shouldn't have been you.
It shouldn't have been anyone.
We'll win, but we need to wait for the right moment or create it... together.
And you're a part of that together.

Don't Do This.
We Need You.

Rosita:
I didn't find any guns.
In case you were wondering.
I was out there all day and not a damn one. Not a real one.
Thing is, I had a gun. I was gonna use it to kill Negan.
I was ready to.
And if I had done it, like I'd planned to, Negan would be dead right now.
And, yeah, maybe I'd be dead, too, but who gives a damn?
Eugene would still be here.
Olivia would still be alive.
Spencer would still be alive.

And now they're gone, and I'm here because I was stupid enough to listen to you.

Fr. Gabriel,
Warrior-Priest :
But you were.
And you did.

Rosita Espinoza :
You stand there telling people about their lives.

Fr. Gabriel,
Warrior-Priest :
Only if they come Here.
Like you. Right now.

Rosita Espinoza :
You don't know shit about shit.

Fr. Gabriel,
Warrior-Priest :
You're right.
I don't.
I said that you weren't supposed to die and that you shouldn't do the thing that you were planning to do because we needed you -- still do.

Even a fool like me could see that.

It's easier to be dead,
and if it's my fault you're alive, well,
I'm just gonna have to live with that.

I decided to meddle.

But I did something I thought was right, and I knew the stakes were very high.
You can certainly blame me for the fact that you have a Life, but after that what are you going to do with it?

How are you going to make what needs to happen happen?
Anything is possible until your heart stops beating.

Certainly more than yelling at a fool.

Carl

...Scholars of myth may note that in the title sequence, Time's Champion winks the eye that Merlyn is said to have sacrificed for wisdom...

Dr. Sidney Schaefer:
You know, one thing I learned from my patients... they all hate the phone company. It's interesting; even the stock holders of the phone company hate the phone company!

V.I. Kydor Kropotkin:
I know. Bedouins hate the phone company. Matter of fact, I've never been in a country where everybody didn't hate the phone company.

V.I. Kydor Kropotkin:
Are you trying to tell me every phone in the country is tapped?

Don Masters, CEA Agent:
That's what's in my head.

V.I. Kydor Kropotkin
Don, this is America, not Russia!

There archived apple and poison

After The Flood : Heroes, Gods & Monsters of the Zombie Post-Apocalypse

Chapter 6
1 And it came to pass, when Men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,

2 That the Sons of God saw the Daughters of Men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his
days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the Sons of God came in unto the Daughters of Men, and they bare children to them, the same became Mighty Men which were of old, Men of Renown.

5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually

6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
