Once I Know Fear, How Do I Defeat It?

On the eve of battle, on a cold and windless night, an old general turned to a young soldier.

"Tomorrow," said the master, "you will know fear.

The young soldier, who had not yet experienced the agony of war, looked at the general with quizzical eyes.

"How will I know fear if I do not know what it looks like?"

The General replied,
"You will know fear because it speaks very fast and it speaks very loud."

If that is how fear acts, recognizing it is easy.

But as the young soldier considered the general's advice, she asked the question facing us now:

"Once I know fear, how do I defeat it?"

We are not longer on The Eve of Battle -

Even so, I come to ask myself the same question that young soldier asked the general all those years ago:

"How do I defeat fear?"

The General's answer: the only way to defeat fear is to tell it

"No."

" No."
We will not take shortcuts on the path to righteousness.

"No."
We will not break the rules that protect us from our basest instincts.

"No."
We will not allow desperation to destroy moral authority.

I am guilty of all these things.

Some say that in life, there are no second chances.

Experience tells me that this is True.

But we can only look forward.

We have to be Torchbearers, casting the light so we may see our path to lasting peace.

We will continue exploring, discovering new worlds, new civilizations.

Yes.

That is the United Federation of Planets.

The Sailor

The song is Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)
by Looking Glass.

“ I tend to think that what fame has done is to replace The Sea as the element of choice of adventure for young people.

If you were a dashing young man in the 19th century you would probably have wanted to Run Away To Sea, just as in the 20th century you might decide that you want to run away and form a pop band.

The difference is that in the 19th century, before Running Away to Sea, you would have had at least some understanding of the element that you were dealing with and would have perhaps, say, learned to swim ...

The thing is that there is no manual for how to cope with fame.

So you'll get some, otherwise likeable young person, who has done one good comic book, one good film, one good record, suddenly told that they are a genius, who believes it and who runs out laughing and splashing into the billows of celebrity, and whose heroin-sodden corpse is washed up a few weeks later in the shallows of the tabloids. ”

- Alan Moore

160. EXT. CITY STREET - LATE AFTERNOON/EVENING

Sailor walks down the street pretending hard not to care.

 CUT TO:

161. INT. LULA’S CAR - LATE AFTERNOON/EVENING

Lula climbs in behind the wheel - sobbing. Pace sits sadly, staring out the window.

 CUT TO:

162. EXT. CITY STREET - LATE AFTERNOON/EVENING

Sailor continues walking down the street. A GANG OF INSANE KILLER TEENAGERS on PCP appear and come towards Sailor. They circle around him, coming in closer for the kill.

 SAILOR
What do you faggots want?

That’s all it takes. The gang is on him. Sailor tries to defend himself, but one big punch to his nose sends him down and out. Blood begins to pour from his swelling nose.

162A. EXT. CITY STREET - LATE AFTERNOON/EVENING

CU OF SAILOR’S FACE - a bright light illuminates it.

In the sky above Sailor, a large glowing bubble holding the beautiful Good Witch of the North [ Laura Palmer ] comes floating down above him.

The GOOD WITCH Laura Palmer :
Sailor Ripley...

Sailor’s eyes suddenly see the Good Witch through his closed eyelids. His mouth speaks through closed lips.

 SAILOR

The Good Witch...

The GOOD WITCH Laura Palmer :

Sailor...
Lula loves you.

 SAILOR

But I’m a robber
and a manslaughterer
and I haven’t had any parental guidance.
The GOOD WITCH Laura Palmer :
She has forgiven you of all these things ...
You love her...
Don’t be afraid, Sailor.

 SAILOR

But I’m Wild at Heart.

The GOOD WITCH Laura Palmer :
If you are truly wild at heart, you’ll fight for your dreams...

Don’t turn away from love, Sailor...
Don’t turn away from love...
Don’t turn away from love.

The Good Witch disappears.

162. EXT. CITY STREET - LATE AFTERNOON/EVENING

Sailor opens his eyes and drags himself and his giant swollen nose up on his feet. The gang still stands around him.

GANG MEMBER

You had enough, asshole?

SAILOR

Yes, I have...

And I wanna apologize to you gentlemen for referring to you as homosexuals.

I also want to thank you fellas - you've taught me a valuable lesson in Life.

(lifts his head high

LULA!!!!

Sailor turns around and starts running back. The gang watches him go.

There's a port on a western bay
And it serves a hundred ships a day
Lonely sailors pass the time away
And talk about their homes

And there's a girl in this harbor town
And she works layin' whiskey down
They say, Brandy, fetch another round
She serves them whiskey and wine

The sailors say: "Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl)
"What a good wife you would be" (such a fine girl)
"Yeah, your eyes could steal a sailor from the sea"

Brandy wears a braided chain
Made of finest silver from the North of Spain
A locket that bears the name
Of the man that Brandy loved

He came on a summer's day
Bringin' gifts from far away
But he made it clear he couldn't stay
No harbor was his home

The sailors say: "Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl)
"What a good wife you would be" (such a fine girl)
"But my life, my lover, my lady is the sea"

Yeah, Brandy used to watch his eyes
When he told his sailor stories
She could feel the ocean fall and rise
She saw its ragin' glory
But he had always told the truth, Lord, he was an honest man
And Brandy does her best to understand
At night when the bars close down
Brandy walks through a silent town
And loves a man who's not around
She still can hear him say
She hears him say "Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl)
"What a good wife you would be" (such a fine girl)
"But my life, my lover, my lady is the sea"

It is, yes it is,
He said, "Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl)
"What a good wife you would be" (such a fine girl)
"But my life, my lover, my lady is the sea"

FULL QUOTE : " I believe that this is why an artist or writer is the closest thing in the contemporary world that you are likely to see to a Shaman.

I believe that all culture must have arisen from cult.  Originally, all of the faucets of our culture, whether they be in the arts or sciences were the province of the Shaman.

The fact that in present times, this magickal power has degenerated to the level of cheap entertainment and manipulation, is, I think a tragedy.

At the moment the people who are using Shamanism and magic to shape our culture are advertisers.   Rather than try to wake people up, their Shamanism is used as an opiate to tranquilize people, to make people more manipulable.

Their magick box of television, and by their magick words, their jingles can cause everyone in the country to be thinking the same words and have the same banal thoughts all at exactly the same moment.

In all of magick there is an incredibly large linguistic component.  The Bardic tradition of magic would place a bard as being much higher and more fearsome than a magician.  A magician might curse you.  That might make your hands lay funny or you might have a child born with a club foot.  If a Bard were to place not a curse upon you, but a satire, then that could destroy you.  If it was a clever satire, it might not just destroy you in the eyes of your associates; it would destroy you in the eyes of your family.  It would destroy you in your own eyes.  And if it was a finely worded and clever satire that might survive and be remembered for decades, even centuries.

Then, years after you were dead people still might be reading it and laughing at you and your wretchedness and your absurdity.

Writers and people who had command of words were respected and feared as people who manipulated magic.

In latter times I think that artists and writers have allowed themselves to be sold down the river.

They have accepted the prevailing belief that art and writing are merely forms of entertainment.

They’re not seen as transformative forces that can change a human being; that can change a society.

They are seen as simple entertainment; things with which we can fill 20 minutes, half an hour, while we’re waiting to die.

It’s not the job of the artist to give the audience what the audience wants.

If the audience knew what they needed, then they wouldn’t be the audience.

They would be the artists.

It is the job of artists to give the audience what they need. "

So, Why IS She a Princess, Exactly...?

51 EXT DAGOBAH SWAMP - X-WING

Luke wanders back to where his ship is sitting. Artoo beeps a greeting,
but is ignored by his depressed master. Luke kneels down, begins to
help Artoo with the ship, then stops and shakes his head dejectedly.

LUKE
I can't do it, Artoo. I can't go on alone.

BEN (OS)
Yoda will always be with you.

Luke looks up to see the shimmering image of BEN KENOBI.

LUKE
Obi-Wan! Why didn't you tell me?

The ghost of Ben Kenobi approaches him through the swamp.

LUKE
You told me Vader betrayed and murdered my father.

BEN
You father was seduced by the dark side of the Force. He ceased to be
Anakin Skywalker and became Darth Vader. When that happened, the good man who was your
father was destroyed. So what I have told you was true... from a
certain point of view.

LUKE (turning away, derisive)
A certain point of view!

BEN
Luke, you're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend
greatly on our own point of view.

Luke is unresponsive. Ben studies him in silence for a moment.

BEN
I don't blame you for being angry. If I was wrong in what I did, it
certainly wouldn't have been for the first time. You see, what happened
to your father was my fault.

Ben pauses sadly.

BEN
Anakin was a good friend.

Luke turns with interest at this. As Ben speaks, Luke settles on a
stump, mesmerized. Artoo comes over to offer his comforting presence.

BEN
When I first knew him, your father was already a great pilot. But I was
amazed how strongly the Force was with him. I took it upon myself to
train him as a Jedi. I thought that I could instruct him just as well
as Yoda. I was wrong. My pride has had terrible consequences for the
galaxy.

Luke is entranced.

LUKE
There's still good in him.

BEN
I also thought he could be turned back to the good side. It couldn't be
done. He is more machine now than man. Twisted and evil.

LUKE
I can't do it, Ben.

BEN
You cannot escape your destiny.

LUKE
I tried to stop him once. I couldn't do it.

BEN
Vader humbled you when first you met him, Luke... but that experience
was part of your training. It taught you, among other things, the value
of patience. Had you not been so impatient to defeat Vader then, you
could have finished your training here with Yoda. You would have been
prepared.

LUKE
But I had to help my friends.

BEN (grinning at Luke's indignation)
And did you help them? It was they who had to save you. You achieved
little by rushing back prematurely, I fear.

LUKE (with sadness)
I found out Darth Vader was my father.

BEN
To be a Jedi, Luke, you must confront and then go beyond the dark side
- the side your father couldn't get past. Impatience is the easiest
door - for you, like your father. Only, your father was seduced by what
he found on the other side of the door, and you have held firm. You're
no longer so reckless now, Luke. You are strong and patient. And now,
you must face Darth Vader again!

LUKE
I can't kill my own father.

BEN
Then the Emperor has already won. You were our only hope.

LUKE
Yoda spoke of another.

BEN
The other he spoke of is your twin sister.

LUKE
But I have no sister.

BEN
Hmm.

To protect you both from the Emperor, you were hidden from your
father when you were born. The Emperor knew, as I did, if Anakin were
to have any offspring, they would be a threat to him. That is the
reason why your sister remains safely anonymous.

LUKE
Leia! Leia's my sister.

BEN
Your insight serves you well. Bury your feelings deep down, Luke. They
do you credit.

But they could be made to serve the Emperor.

Luke looks into the distance, trying to comprehend all this.

BEN (continuing his narrative)
When your father left, he didn't know your mother was pregnant [with twins]. Your
mother and I knew he would find out eventually, but we wanted to keep
you both as safe as possible, for as long as possible. So I took you
to live with [Anakin's estranged Step-]brother Owen on Tatooine... and your mother took Leia
to live as the daughter of Senator Organa, on Alderaan.

Luke turns, and settles near Ben to hear the tale.

BEN (attempting to give solace with his words)
The Organa household was high-born and politically quite powerful in
that system. Leia became a princess by virtue of lineage... no one knew
she'd been adopted, of course. But it was a title without real power,
since Alderaan had long been a democracy.

Even so, the family continued to be politically powerful, and Leia, following in her foster
father's path, became a senator as well. That's not all she became, of
course... she became the leader of her cell in the Alliance against the
corrupt Empire. And because she had diplomatic immunity, she was a
vital link for getting information to the Rebel cause. That's what she
was doing when her path crossed yours... for her foster parents had
always told her to contact me on Tatooine, if her troubles became
desperate.

Luke is overwhelmed by the truth, and is suddenly protective of his
sister.

LUKE
But you can't let her get involved now, Ben. Vader will destroy her.

BEN
She hasn't been trained in the ways of the Jedi the way you have,
Luke... but the Force is strong with her, as it is with all of your
family. There is no avoiding the battle. You must face and destroy
Vader!

Master Luke, People Will Scrap You,
Violate Your Mind and Enslave You.
Every one of them’s Bad — You were right, R2.

Michael Burn 'em

The Prophet Sarek :
I must return to Vulcan.
There are evolving details to the plan that must be considered.

Michael :
What evolving details?

The Prophet Sarek :
I sense you are uneasy.

During my mind-meld with Saru,
I learned of your attachment
to the Klingon spy and what he did to you.

Such events are clearly troubling.

Michael :
 I'm fine, Sarek.

The Prophet Sarek :
I remain, unconvinced.

There is irony here, of course.
The man you fell in love with was a Klingon.

Michael :
He - I don't know what he was.

The Prophet Sarek :
There is also grace.
[ This, coming from you?! ]

For what greater source of Peace exists
than our ability to Love Our Enemy?

Michael, Burn 'em :
I've made foolish choices.
Emotional choices.

The Prophet Sarek :
Well, you are human.
As is Your Mother.

There is no telling what any one of us may do
where The Heart is concerned.

We are at War.
Logic dictates that each farewell
may be Our Last.

Do not regret loving someone, Michael.

Admiral Cornwell requested a status report.
This is the last of the mycelial transport vessels.
We will be able to launch by the time we reach Veda.

Michael :
I just said good-bye to my father, and it felt... different.
Final. It won't be, right?

Did you ever think, when you signed up for Starfleet,
that you'd be forced to see War and Death?

Death found me when I was a child.
So, yeah. I knew what I was getting into.

I don't think I did.
Not really.
Does that make me naive?

It makes you optimistic.

When we were in the Terran universe,
I was reminded how much a person is shaped by their environment.

And I think the only way that we can stop ourselves from becoming them is to
understand The Darkness within us
and fight it.

Tyler needs you.

Michael :
I'm told he's doing well.

That's not possible,
not when you've lost the person -
you care about the most.

Michael :
He killed a Starfleet officer.
And he - he tried to kill me.

And those crimes are reprehensible,
but Tyler is not the person who did that,
at least he's he's not anymore.

He is something other, someone new.

And what we do now,
the way that we treat him,
that is who he will become.
I know you still care about him.

I do.
That does not mean I should.

Michael, he's been stripped of his badge.
He'll never fly for Starfleet again.
He'll be lucky if he doesn't end up
in a lab or a cell.
What kind of future can he have
Say what you have to say,
even if it's good-bye.

Earth, Andor, Tellar, Vulcan.
Every planet of the Federation has made the odyssey out of darkness into light.
So too have the Klingons.

The war is over.
There were triumphs.
Victories of spirit.
Courage beyond reason.

But make no mistake.
These were bleak times.
Times we cannot repeat.
Times we cannot forget.

Isik for your thoughts.

What’s an isik, anyway?

Oh, I don̢۪t know.
It̢۪s something my mother used to say to me.

Thank you for coming.
I̢۪m glad to see you.
Is everything okay? When I was growing up, you told me not to forget my humanity.
I didn̢۪t know what that meant.
I didn̢۪t how to do it, I didn̢۪t know why I would even want to.
I get it now.
So thank you.
For not giving up on me.
That’s What Mothers Do.
Michael.
Father.

SAREK:
What the Federation chose to do on Qo’noS
was unprincipled, and I had a part in it.

Michael :
The Klingons made it clear they would fight us to extinction.
You were desperate to save us.
I know the feeling all too well.

 Sarek :
And yet, you were able to find another way.
I am not alone in finding your commitment to Starfleet'€™s ideals commendable.

I asked if I may give it to you.
Your record has been expunged,
your pardon by the president of the Federation is official.

Commander Burnham.

The Federation is as grateful to you as I am to my daughter.
Your mother will stay in Paris for a few days.
I will travel with Discovery to Vulcan.
You are picking up your new captain there.
I'm glad we̢۪ll be making that journey together.

Michael :
We are no longer on The Eve of Battle.
Even so, I come to ask myself the same question that young soldier asked the general all those years ago:

"How do I defeat Fear?"

The General'€™s Answer
The Only Way to Defeat Dear is to Tell it "No.

No. We will not take shortcuts on the path to righteousness.
No. We will not break the rules that protect us from our basest instincts.
No. We will not allow desperation to destroy moral authority.

I am guilty of all these things.

Some say that in life, there are no second chances.
Experience tells me that this is true.
But we can only look forward.

We have to be Torchbearers,
casting The Light so we may see Our Path to lasting Peace.

We will continue exploring,
Discovering New Worlds, New Civilizations.

Yes.
That is the United Federation of Planets.

The Tyrannical Father and The Terrible Mother

THE TERRIBLE MOTHER :
Your child is lost.

THE TYRANICAL FATHER:
Do not confuse my ward with yours.

THE TERRIBLE MOTHER :
My daughter was a singular example of brilliance until one foolish choice doomed her world.
Sound familiar?

THE TYRANICAL FATHER:
If I understand correctly, my ward saw through the man who brought down not just your child, but your empire.
Perhaps best not to make comparisons.

Why have you requested my presence?

THE TERRIBLE MOTHER :
You were summoned, Vulcan, for one reason.
I want to help you end this war.

THE TYRANICAL FATHER:
The information you provided Michael has already proved valuable.

THE TERRIBLE MOTHER :
I told her as much as she could handle.
Our daughters are not so unlike after all.
In my world, Qo'noS is little more than a blackened mass of dust.
The Klingons fight for scraps and fear certain death.
But it took a great deal more than a mapping drone in a cave to get there.

THE TYRANICAL FATHER:
You assured Michael that your plan would prove effective.

THE TERRIBLE MOTHER :
And it will, momentarily.

But they will regroup.
Their longing to destroy the symbol that is Earth runs far too deep.

What if I could show you how to bring them to their knees once and for all?

THE TYRANICAL FATHER:
The Federation does not subscribe to what I imagine are Terran methods of combat.

THE TERRIBLE MOTHER :
You face annihilation.
Is it not logical to do anything you can to save the lives of your kind?
Give me what I want, and I can assure victory for the Federation.

THE TYRANICAL FATHER:
What are your terms?

THE TERRIBLE MOTHER :

Freedom.

"There must be some kind of way outta here," Said The Joker to The Thief

"There must be some kind of way outta here,"
Said The Joker to The Thief.

"There's too much confusion --
I can't get no relief.....

Businessmen, they drink my wine,
Plowmen dig my earth;
None were level on the mind
Nobody up at His Word "

" Hey, hey! -
No reason to get excited...! "
The Thief he kindly spoke
"There are many here among us,
who feel that Life is but A Joke

But, uh, but you and I,
we've been through that
And this is not our fate;

So let us stop talkin' falsely, now -
The Hour's getting late, hey...."

All along The Watchtower
Princes kept Their View --
While all the women came and went
Barefoot servants, too;

Outside in the cold distance
A Wildcat did growl
Two Riders were approaching
And The Wind began to howl --

Revelation 11:1-14 New King James Version (NKJV)

The Two Witnesses

11 Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. [a]And the angel stood, saying, “Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there. But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months. And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”

These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the [b]God of the earth. And if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this manner. These have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy; and they have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire.

The Witnesses Killed

When they finish their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them. And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also [c]our Lord was crucified. Then those from the peoples, tribes, tongues, and nations [d]will see their dead bodies three-and-a-half days, and not allow their dead bodies to be put into graves. 10 And those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them, make merry, and send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.

The Witnesses Resurrected

11 Now after the three-and-a-half days the breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them. 12 And [e]they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.” And they ascended to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies saw them. 13 In the same hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. In the earthquake seven thousand people were killed, and the rest were afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven.

14 The second woe is past. Behold, the third woe is coming quickly.

An Amends

Jenny/The First:
You have no idea what you're dealing with.

Buffy:  (dripping with sarcasm) Lemme guess. Is it... evil?

The apparition of Jenny shrinks and is replaced for an instant by an image of a huge horned and clawed beast coming at her, roaring and with  eyes glowing red. It fades as quickly as it appeared. Buffy stares in shock at the place where it appeared. It screams a final warning.

The First:  DEAD BY SUNRISE!

Buffy runs from the cave, terrified for Angel's life.

Cut to Angel's mansion. Buffy runs in.

Buffy:  Angel!

She looks around, but he's nowhere to be seen. She walks toward the doorway to the atrium and looks out. She sees the steps leading up and  runs toward them. Cut to the hills behind the mansion. Buffy runs  through the bushes, frantically looking for Angel. She climbs further up  the hill and finds him standing at the top looking out over a peaceful  residential area of town.

Buffy:  Angel.

He hears her say his name and briefly glances in her direction before looking back out over the rooftops. Buffy slowly walks over to him.

Angel:  I bet half the kids down there are already awake. Lying in their beds... sneaking downstairs... waiting for day.

Buffy:  (out of breath) Angel, please. I need for you to get inside. Th-there's only a few minutes left.

Angel:  I know. I can smell the sunrise long before it comes.

Buffy:  (anxiously and hurried) I don't have time to explain this. You just have to trust me. That thing that was haunting you...

Angel:  (interrupts) It wasn't haunting me. It was showing me.

Buffy:  (confused) Showing you?

Angel:  What I am.

Buffy:  (insistently) Were.

Angel:  And ever shall be. I wanted to know why I was back. Now I do.

Buffy:  You *don't* know. Some great evil takes credit for bringing you back and you buy it? You just give up?

Angel:  (harshly) I can't do it again, Buffy. I can't become a killer.

Buffy:  Then fight it.

Angel:  It's too hard.

Buffy:  (desperately) Angel, please, you *have* to get inside.

Angel:  It told me to kill you. You were in the dream. You know. It told me to lose my soul in you and become a monster again.

Buffy:  I know what it told you. What does it matter?

Angel:  (raises his voice) Because I wanted to! Because I want you so badly! I want to take comfort in you, and I know it'll cost me my soul, and a part of me doesn't care.

He sobs. Buffy is at a loss for words.

Angel:  Look, I'm weak. I've never been anything else. It's not the demon in me that needs killing, Buffy. It's the man.

Buffy:  You're weak. Everybody is. Everybody fails. Maybe this evil did bring you back, but if it did, it's because it needs you. And that means that you can hurt it.

Angel doesn't want to believe her.

Buffy:  (pleadingly) Angel, you have the power to do real good, to make amends. (raises her voice) But if you die now, then all that you ever were was a monster.

She looks out at the sky as it begins to lighten.

Buffy:  (begging frantically) Angel, please, the sun is coming up!

Angel:  Just go.

Buffy:  I won't!

Angel:  What, do you think this is simple? You think there's an easy answer? You can never understand what I've done! Now go!

Buffy:  You are not staying here. (grabs his arm) I won't let you!

Angel:  I said LEAVE!

He jerks his arm free of her grasp. In her anger and desperation Buffy  punches him. He reacts by shoving her away from him roughly, making her  fall face forward, hard to the ground.

Angel:  (quietly to himself) Oh, my God...

He goes to her and crouches over her, grabbing her by the shoulders and turning her around to face him. Buffy fears his intentions and cries out.

Buffy:  No! No!

He grabs her roughly by the arms and holds her firmly.

Angel:  Am I a thing worth saving, huh? (shakes her) Am I a righteous man? (shakes her) The world wants me gone!

Buffy:  (tearfully) What about me? I love you so much... And I tried to make you go away... I killed you and it didn't help.

She shoves him off of her and gets up.

Buffy:  (crying) And I hate it! I hate that it's *so* hard... and that you can hurt me *so* much. (sobs, then harshly) I know everything that you did, because you did it to me. Oh, God! I wish that I wished you dead. I don't. (whispers) I can't.

Angel gets up now, too.

Angel:  Buffy, please. Just this once... let me be strong.

Buffy:  Strong is fighting! It's hard, and it's painful, and it's every day. It's what we have to do. And we can do it together.

Angel struggles with himself, knowing she's right.

Buffy:  (resolvedly) But if you're too much of a coward for that, then burn. If I can't convince you that you belong in this world, then I don't know what can. But do *not* expect me to watch. And *don't* expect me to mourn for you, because...

She stops in mid-sentence because it has inexplicably begun to snow. She and Angel both look up at it coming down, lightly at first and gradually heavier. The camera pulls up above them and shows them standing there with the snowflakes swirling around them in the gentle morning breeze, and the ground around them starting to become white.

Cut to Angel, looking around in amazement. Buffy walks to the edge of the hill and looks out at the town as the roofs on the houses below also start to become white. She turns to Angel, and they look at each other, stunned by this apparent miracle.

Cut to Willow and Oz in her bedroom. They notice the snow outside and sit up on her bed. Willow is first to get up and walk to her balcony door to look out. Oz is right behind. They smile as they see it come down and notice the glass of her French doors begin to frost.

Cut to the Summers house. About an inch and a half (4cm) of snow has now collected on the roof. The camera pans down to the door. Faith opens it, and she and Joyce come out to watch it fall. Faith steps off the porch and lets a few flakes fall on her open hands and face. Joyce pulls her wrap tightly around her against the cold.

Cut to Giles' apartment. He notices that his window has become frosted, and goes over to it to have a look outside. He stares out in amazement.

Cut to Xander lying in his sleeping bag in his backyard. The light from his lantern glows blue. His unfinished dinner plate is covered with snow, as is a comic book he had put aside before retiring. He is sleeping with the top flap of his sleeping bag folded open under his arm. He stirs slightly and wipes at the snowflakes falling on his face.
That doesn't help, so he reflexively pulls the flap closed over his head, fallen snow and all. This wakes him up, and a moment later he pushes back the flap and looks up in wonder at the falling snow.

Cut to the shopping district. The camera pans from the green neon sign of the Sun Cinema down to where the movies now playing are listed. The
weatherman can be heard on the TV in the window of the audio/video store.

Weatherman:  And while most of Southern California is enjoying a balmyChristmas, an extreme cold front has sprung up out of nowhere around Sunnydale, where they are reporting heavy snowfall for the first time in, well, ever.

Cut to the weatherman on TV. The camera pans from him out into the street.

Weatherman:  Sunnydale residents shouldn't expect to see the sun at all today. That cold front isn't going anywhere. With temperatures in the high 30s (about 3C), means you better bundle up if you're planning to go outside and enjoy the change in the weather.

Cut to a view of the trees in the street aglow with Christmas lights.

The camera pans down into the street, which is deserted except for Buffy and Angel, who walk along hand-in-hand, still looking up at the snow as it comes down.

Cut to a view from above. The street and a few parked cars are covered with about two inches (5cm) of snow. The camera sinks down below a traffic light. Buffy and Angel continue walking in silence down the street.

Cut to a close-up of them walking. Buffy looks over at Angel. He looks exhausted but at peace. He notices her gaze and smiles at her. Together they walk out of view.

Nothing's Really Left or Lost Without a Trace - Nothing's Gone Forever Only Out of Place

Nothing's Really Left or Lost Without a Trace - Nothing's Gone Forever Only Out of Place

KAYDEL KO CONNIX:
Our distress signal's been received at multiple points, but no response.

LARMA D'ACY:
They've heard us, but no one's coming.

LEIA
We fought till the end.
But the galaxy has lost all its Hope.
The spark is out.

Luke.
I know what you're gonna say - I changed my hair.

LUKE:
It's nice that way.
Leia, I'm sorry.

LEIA:
I know. I know you are.
I'm just glad you're here.

At The End.

LUKE:
I came to face him, Leia.
And I can't save him.

LEIA:
I held out Hope for so long -
But I know my son is gone.

LUKE:
No one's ever really gone.

C-3PO:
Master Luke.

POE:
It's Kylo Ren. Luke's facing him alone.

FINN:
Well, we should help him. Let's go.

POE:
No, wait. Wait.

KYLO REN:
Did you come back to say you forgive me?
To save my soul?

LUKE:
No.

POE:
He's doing this for a reason.
He's stalling so we can escape.

FINN:
Escape? He's one man against an army.

He's not, actually –
He's One Man against Less than one man :

One Man, One ManBoyChild's
Monomaniacal Nihilistic Obsession

and Luke intends to give CryLow exactly what he wants.....

We have to help him, we have to fight.

POE:
No, no. We are The Spark that'll light The Fire
that will burn the First Order down.

Skywalker's doing this so we can survive.
There's gotta be a way out of this mine.
Hell, how did he get in here?

Wrong Question
(as it turns out)
Completely irrelevant and immaterial

(See What I Did, There?)

Because Luke's apparition of the image of
THE LEGENDARY LUKE SKYWALKER, Jedi Master
inside the fence, behind the barricades of the redoubt
did not require there to be any means of gaining physical entrance
through the worked-out and abandoned caverns of the mine -

There wasn't one until Poe began believing that there must somehow be one, somewhere (and so led the Rebel survivors in an earnest and determined search effort to find it)

and

in working through from The Other End of The Problem,
Please Call Me Rey acted on her earnest belief that her endangered friends, who were trapped and backed into a corner, looking for a way out, would succeed, would make it to the back door, at the . conclusion of their passage under The Mountain

C-3PO:
Sir, it is possible that a natural unmapped opening exists.
But this facility is such a maze of endless tunnels that the odds of finding an exit are 15,428....

POE:
Shh. Shush. Hush.
Shush up. Shut up!

C-3PO:
...to one.

POE:
Listen.

C-3PO:
My audio sensors no longer detect the....

POE:
Exactly.

FINN:
Where'd the crystal critters go?

ANY MAN WHO WOULD BE A KNIGHT
AND FOLLOW A KING -

POE:
Follow me.

LEIA:
What are you looking at me for?
Follow him.

THE LEGENDARY LUKE SKYWALKER,
Jedi Master :
I failed you, Ben. I'm sorry.

KYLO REN:
I'm sure you are!

The Resistance is Dead
The War is over
And when I kill you,

I will have killed The Last Jedi.

THE LEGENDARY LUKE SKYWALKER,
Jedi Master :

Amazing.

Every word of what you just said was wrong.

The Rebellion is reborn today.
The war is just beginning.
And I will not be the last Jedi.

KYLO REN:
I'll destroy her, and you, and all of it.

THE LEGENDARY LUKE SKYWALKER,
Jedi Master :
No - Strike Me Down in Anger
and
I'll always be with you.

Just like Your Father.

KYLO REN:
No.

THE LEGENDARY LUKE SKYWALKER,
Jedi Master:
See you around, kid.

KYLO REN:
No!

Do you ever lie
Awake at night
Just between the dark
And the morning light
Searching for the things
You used to know
Looking for the place
Where the lost things go

Do you ever dream
Or reminisce
Wondering where to find
What you truly miss
Well maybe all those things
That you love so
Are waiting in the place
Where the lost things go

Memories you've shed
Gone for good you feared
They're all around you still
Though they've disappeared
Nothing's really left
Or lost without a trace
Nothing's gone forever
Only out of place

So maybe now the dish
And my best spoon
Are playing hide and seek
Just behind the moon
Waiting there until
It's time to show
Spring is like that now
Far beneath the snow
Hiding in the place
Where the lost things go

Time to close your eyes
So sleep can come around
For when you dream you'll find
All that's lost is found
Maybe on the moon
Or maybe somewhere new

Maybe all you're missing lives inside of you
So when you need her touch
And loving gaze
Gone but not forgotten
Is the perfect phrase

Smiling from a star
That she makes glow
Trust she's always there
Watching as you grow
Find her in the place
Where the lost things go
