Accession - He is Dead

At the Sonchi ceremony aboard K'mpec's ship, Gowron and Duras arrive with their aides. Picard, followed by each of the challengers, stands before K'mpec's body, says "Qab jIH ngil," ("Face me if you dare") and jabs the corpse with a painstik.

While Picard does so with veiled detestation and Gowron simply does so as a matter of due process, Duras seems to relish his turn. Finally K'Ehleyr steps in front of the corpse and says, "Sonchi" ("He is dead").

Accession : The Fall of the House of Gowron

So ends The Reign of
The Ruling House of Gowron...

Brief, and Turbulent it was...

But Glorious.

I can't order you to kill him.

But kill him.

Gowron may be our Ally - but Martok is our Friend.

And Martok is an honourable man.

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears;
I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.
The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their bones;
So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus
Hath told you Caesar was ambitious:
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Caesar answer'd it.
Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest--
For Brutus is an honourable man;
So are they all, all honourable men--
Come I to speak in Caesar's funeral.
He was my friend, faithful and just to me:
But Brutus says he was ambitious;
And Brutus is an honourable man.
He hath brought many captives home to Rome
Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill:
Did this in Caesar seem ambitious?
When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept:
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff:
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious;
And Brutus is an honourable man.
You all did see that on the Lupercal
I thrice presented him a kingly crown,
Which he did thrice refuse: was this ambition?
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious;
And, sure, he is an honourable man.
I speak not to disprove what Brutus spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love him once, not without cause:
What cause withholds you then, to mourn for him?
O judgment! thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason. Bear with me;
My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar,
And I must pause till it come back to me.

Accession : Spectres at The Feast - K'mpec

K'mpec, who ruled the Klingon Empire longer than anyone in history, is dead.

I want you to discover which one of them has killed me.

Find the assassin.

The Klingon who kills without showing his face has no honour.

He must not lead the Empire.

Such a man would be capable of anything.

K'EHLEYR:
I won't bore you with the intricacies of Klingon politics.
Basically, two factions are trying to seize power.

PICARD:
Do you believe there is a threat to the Federation in this struggle?

K'EHLEYR:
Klingon wars seldom remain confined to the Empire. Sooner or later they'll drag in the neighbouring star systems, then the Tholians, the Ferengi.

The Federation won't be able to stay out of it for long.

This has been coming for some time.

Only K'mpec, the head of the Council, has been able to maintain the peace.

TROI:
Now something has changed that.

K'EHLEYR:
Correct.

K'mpec is dying.

He is aboard the cruiser.

He has come specifically to meet with you, Captain.
Alone.

[K'mpec's quarters]

(Picard is escorted into K'mpec's quarters. There's a lot of red in the decor, and the chairs are massive)

K'MPEC:
It's about time you arrived, Picard. Sit.

(He dismisses the guard with a wave of his hand

K'MPEC: I need your help.

PICARD:
If the Enterprise medical facility can do anything to help.

K'MPEC:
Too late. For some months I have been poisoned with small doses of Veridium six.
The wine. There is no cure.

PICARD:
What do you want of me?

K'MPEC:
After I die, you will act in my name to arbitrate the struggle for power.

PICARD:
I will?

K'MPEC:
No one on the Council can be trusted, and I have my reasons for wanting an outsider.

PICARD:
K'mpec, you cannot possibly be serious. A Federation officer has no business in

K'MPEC:
Nonsense. You are an accomplished mediator.
This is no different than any other dispute requiring your services.

PICARD:
On the contrary, I think this is very different.
And I must respectfully decline.

K'MPEC:
If you refuse the dying request of the Klingon Supreme Commander it will be a insult by the Federation to all Klingons.
Besides, I've already sent the order to the leaders of the two opposing factions.
They're on their way.

PICARD:
You had no right to involve me without my permission.

K'MPEC:
If I'd asked, you would have said no.

[ BE A KING ]

PICARD:
This is not a case of simple mediation.
You are asking me to choose the next leader of the Klingon Empire.

K'MPEC:
No. By tradition, the two strongest challengers fight for the Right of Succession.
As mediator, only you can designate those challengers.

PICARD:
But you have just said there are only two challengers arriving.
What is the point?

K'MPEC:
I want you to discover which one of them has killed me.

Gowron or Duras.

Yes, Duras.
I thought you would find that interesting.

PICARD:
Interesting? You could say that, since he tried to have me killed, and conspired to strip Worf of his good name.

K'MPEC:
And I approved. All for the glory of the Empire. That should be my epitaph.

Find the assassin.
The Klingon who kills without showing his face has no honour.
He must not lead the Empire.
Such a man would be capable of anything.
Even war with the Federation.

PICARD:
Very well. I accept.

(K'mpec takes another drink of poisoned wine)

Captain's log, supplemental.
K'mpec, who ruled the Klingon Empire longer than anyone in history, is dead.
We await the arrival of Duras and Gowron, rivals for the leadership of the High Council.

Accession : Spencers, Stewards and Stuarts

A SPENCE or SPENCER is a STEWARD

An INDOOR, or HOUSEHOLD SERVANT
(In contrast to a GROOM or EQUIRY, who attended to HORSES)

By the Mid-17th Century, around the time of The English Civil War, the Mid-point of the Rule of the House of STEWART/STEWARD/SEWARD,

A BUTLER.

SPENCE

The Stewards watched over the throne until it could be reclaimed by a true King of Gondor, an heir of Elendil. When asked by his son Boromir how long a time must pass before a Steward could become a King, if the King did not return, Denethor II replied, "Few years, maybe, in other places of less royalty … In Gondor ten thousand years would not suffice" (reported by Faramir in The Two Towers).

The Stewards never sat on the throne of the King; instead, they sat on a simple chair of Black Stone placed below it. The symbol of their office was a White Rod.

The Quenya name for the title is Arandur , "Servant of the King".

Soon after the death of Denethor IIAragorn II Elessar was crowned King. The Steward Faramir, son of Denethor II, surrendered to the King his Rod of Office, but it was returned to him.

Faramir nominally ruled briefly as Steward until Elessar's coronation, but since Faramir rested in the Houses of Healing, Prince Imrahil of Dol Amrothtook his place during much of that time.

Though Faramir became Steward a month and a half before Elessar became King, Faramir is not considered one of the Ruling Stewards.

King Elessar confirmed in Faramir and his descendants the office of Steward of Gondor, and granted him in addition the Princedom of Ithilien, ensuring his line a position as Counsellor of the King [in Hellenistic Greek Terms, the Archon (Who were Advisors to The King)]

The original model for the Stewards of Gondor is probably the title of steward, a medieval king's follower in Europe.

In England there arose a powerful office, that of Lord High Steward, which was the principle advisor to the monarch.

The office has fallen into disuse, but remains to this day for coronations only.
Quark, Son of Keldar, Steward of the House of Quirk

For the answer to your question about Aragorn, see this post which discusses basically why he’s wandering the wild and not ruling a country. But I’ll discuss the Stewards of Gondor here.
The position of steward was created within the first 500 years of the Third Age by King Romendacil I. At first the king could choose anybody to be stewart [sic], and their position was to be both a counselor to the king, and also to rule Gondor if the king was busy elsewhere (i.e. leading the army.) By the year 2000 the position became hereditary.
In the year 2050 King Earnur died without an heir, and his steward Mardil Voronwe. (See more about his death here.) Since the kings fate was unknown (he marched to battle and was never seen again) Mardil vowed to rule in the king’s name until “the king returns.” So, for 27 generations the stewards basically acted as kings, ruling Gondor much the same as any king would. However, they never became kings themselves. This was largely symbolic (for example, they never sat on the throne.)
Faramir once said that Boromir asked his father how long before the steward would become king, and Denethor responded “in Gondor ten thousand years would not suffice.” When Aragorn returned Faramir happily gave him control of Gondor. Aragorn kept Faramir as steward, though, as well as Prince of Ithilien. Faramir’s role would have been more like the stewards before the line of kings ended, as mainly a counselor.

Accession : Tyrrel

KING RICHARD III
O bitter consequence,
That Edward still should live! 'True, noble prince!'
Cousin, thou wert not wont to be so dull:
Shall I be plain? I wish the bastards dead;
And I would have it suddenly perform'd.
What sayest thou? speak suddenly; be brief.
BUCKINGHAM
Your grace may do your pleasure.
KING RICHARD III
Tut, tut, thou art all ice, thy kindness freezeth:
Say, have I thy consent that they shall die?
BUCKINGHAM
Give me some breath, some little pause, my lord
Before I positively herein:
I will resolve your grace immediately.
Exit
CATESBY
[Aside to a stander by
The king is angry: see, he bites the lip.
KING RICHARD III
I will converse with iron-witted fools
And unrespective boys: none are for me
That look into me with considerate eyes:
High-reaching Buckingham grows circumspect.
Boy!
Page
My lord?
KING RICHARD III
Know'st thou not any whom corrupting gold
Would tempt unto a close exploit of death?
Page
My lord, I know a discontented gentleman,
Whose humble means match not his haughty mind:
Gold were as good as twenty orators,
And will, no doubt, tempt him to any thing.
KING RICHARD III
What is his name?
Page
His name, my lord, is Tyrrel.
KING RICHARD III
I partly know the man: go, call him hither.
Exit Page
The deep-revolving witty Buckingham
No more shall be the neighbour to my counsel:
Hath he so long held out with me untired,
And stops he now for breath?
Enter STANLEY
How now! what news with you?
STANLEY
My lord, I hear the Marquis Dorset's fled
To Richmond, in those parts beyond the sea
Where he abides.
Stands apart
KING RICHARD III
Catesby!
CATESBY
My lord?
KING RICHARD III
Rumour it abroad
That Anne, my wife, is sick and like to die:
I will take order for her keeping close.
Inquire me out some mean-born gentleman,
Whom I will marry straight to Clarence' daughter:
The boy is foolish, and I fear not him.
Look, how thou dream'st! I say again, give out
That Anne my wife is sick and like to die:
About it; for it stands me much upon,
To stop all hopes whose growth may damage me.
Exit CATESBY
I must be married to my brother's daughter,
Or else my kingdom stands on brittle glass.
Murder her brothers, and then marry her!
Uncertain way of gain! But I am in
So far in blood that sin will pluck on sin:
Tear-falling pity dwells not in this eye.

Re-enter Page, with TYRREL

Is thy name Tyrrel?
TYRREL
James Tyrrel, and your most obedient subject.
KING RICHARD III
Art thou, indeed?
TYRREL
Prove me, my gracious sovereign.
KING RICHARD III
Darest thou resolve to kill a friend of mine?
TYRREL
Ay, my lord;
But I had rather kill two enemies.
KING RICHARD III
Why, there thou hast it: two deep enemies,
Foes to my rest and my sweet sleep's disturbers
Are they that I would have thee deal upon:
Tyrrel, I mean those bastards in the Tower.
TYRREL
Let me have open means to come to them,
And soon I'll rid you from the fear of them.
KING RICHARD III
Thou sing'st sweet music. Hark, come hither, Tyrrel
Go, by this token: rise, and lend thine ear:
Whispers
There is no more but so: say it is done,
And I will love thee, and prefer thee too.
TYRREL
'Tis done, my gracious lord.
KING RICHARD III
Shall we hear from thee, Tyrrel, ere we sleep?
TYRREL
Ye shall, my Lord.

SCENE II. London. The palace.

Sennet. Enter KING RICHARD III, in pomp, crowned; BUCKINGHAM, CATESBY, a page, and others
KING RICHARD III
Stand all apart Cousin of Buckingham!
BUCKINGHAM
My gracious sovereign?
KING RICHARD III
Give me thy hand.
Here he ascendeth his throne
Thus high, by thy advice
And thy assistance, is King Richard seated;
But shall we wear these honours for a day?
Or shall they last, and we rejoice in them?
BUCKINGHAM
Still live they and for ever may they last!
KING RICHARD III
O Buckingham, now do I play the touch,
To try if thou be current gold indeed
Young Edward lives: think now what I would say.
BUCKINGHAM
Say on, my loving lord.
KING RICHARD III
Why, Buckingham, I say, I would be king,
BUCKINGHAM
Why, so you are, my thrice renowned liege.
KING RICHARD III
Ha! am I king? 'tis so: but Edward lives.
BUCKINGHAM
True, noble prince.

Who is James Hewitt and why was he rushed to hospital? Ex-Army captain who had an affair with Princess Diana but denies he’s Prince Harry’s dad

FORMER Army captain James Hewitt was rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack and a stroke.
The 59-year-old, who admitted having an affair with Princess Diana, was given a “slim chance of survival” – but who is he?

Who is James Hewitt?

James Hewitt is a former household cavalry officer in the British Army.
The 58-year-old was born in Derry, Northern Ireland, but was brought up in Kent and Devon before being educated at one of the country’s top public schools – Millfield in Somerset.
He attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and was commissioned into the Life Guards – a senior army regiment – as a second lieutenant in 1978.
In 1991 he served as a Challenger tank commander in the Gulf War but failed the exam for promotion to major three times.
Hewitt retired from the Army in March 1994 after 17 years of service and opened up a golf driving range.
The following year rumours emerge that he had been having a five-year affair with Princess Diana.
In 2006 he appeared on a celebrity spin-off of the X Factor as part of a duo with Rebecca Loos.
In 2009 Hewitt set up trendy bar The Polo House in Marbella, Spain, which subsequently closed in 2013.

Why was the ex-Army captain rushed to hospital?

James Hewitt suffered a heart attack and stroke and given emergency surgery after he was rushed to hospital in May.
He was initially treated at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, Devon, before being transferred to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in a serious condition.
A family member told the Daily Mirror: “He’s alright, he’s had a rough night but he’s getting better from what we know.
“He was a very fit man in his youth so we’re all sure he’ll pull through.”
The war veteran, who was last seen at the Bicton Arena horse trials in Devon two weeks ago, is expected to remain in hospital for several weeks.

Did James Hewitt have an affair with Princess Diana?

Princess Diana confessed in a BBC Panorama programme in 1995 that she had had an affair with James Hewitt.
The affair happened at the time Prince Charles was widely reported to have been cheating on Diana with his current wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles.
But the pair were forced apart when Hewitt was deployed to serve in the Gulf War, before splitting permanently when their infidelity was exposed in the media.
Diana and Prince Charles separated in 1992, divorcing four years later.
Her former protection officer and confidante, Ken Wharfe, wrote about the affair in his book Diana: Closely Guarded Secret.
He said: “Hewitt, a natural womaniser, gave her the attention and affection she relished, and then the passion she yearned for.
“At first, Diana refused to concede to me that her affair was anything less than innocent. ‘Nothing is going on,’ she would say, her face flushing red, as we drove back from a tryst, usually with the atmosphere tense in the car.
“I would assure her that I had no interest in anything but her safety, but she must have thought I was stupid or deaf.
“The pair usually met at an old cottage in Devon belonging to Shirley, Hewitt’s mother, where the creaking bedroom floorboards told the story more loudly than any confession.”
Hewitt reportedly tried to sell 64 love letters from Lady Di, disclosing intimate details of their tryst, for £10million, according to the Daily Mail.

James Hewitt denies he is Prince Harry’s biological father despite having an affair with his mother

Is James Hewitt Prince Harry’s dad?

James Hewitt has been rumoured to be Prince Harry’s dad since news of his relationship with Princess Diana became public more than 20 years ago.
He denied the speculation in a recent interview with Australian Channel Seven’s Sunday Night host Melissa Doyle, who quizzed him over the relationship.
When asked if he was the royal’s dad, Hewitt replied:“No I’m not.”
Pressed further on the persistent whispers, he told the presenter: “It sells papers. It’s worse for him, probably, poor chap.”
Ken Wharfe also wrote about the speculation in his book, which he described as “nonsense” and said that it had “greatly angered” Princess Diana.
He said: “A simple comparison of dates proves it is impossible for Hewitt to be Harry’s father. Only once did I ever discuss it with her, and Diana was in tears about it.
“Harry was born on September 15, 1984, which means he was conceived around Christmas 1983, when his brother, William, was 18 months old.
“Diana did not meet James Hewitt until the summer of 1986.
“The red hair that gossips so love to cite as ‘proof’ is, of course, a Spencer trait, as anyone who has ever seen a photograph of Diana’s sister, Jane, for example, as a young woman will be able to testify.”
The discredited claim that James Hewitt is Prince Harry’s dad is set to be repeated in the controversial BBC drama King Charles III.
The show aired on May 10, 2017, on BBC Two.
In the controversial scene which dredges up the old paternity rumours, Prince Harry’s friends introduce him to a commoner called Jess as a potential romantic interest.
She then asks him: “Is Charles really your dad? Or was it the other one?”
Noting his “very ginger” hair, she says: “‘Cos if Hewlitt [sic] was your dad instead, you would be out the family.”
Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell has insisted the claims are “farcical”.
He told The MirrorJames Hewitt is NOT Harry’s dad.
“It’s something that’s been made up. It was just because Harry had red hair, but all the Spencers have red hair.”

Prince Harry NOT James Hewitt’s son…and this PROVES it

James Hewitt denies the rumours he is Prince Harry's father

Harry’s mum Princess Diana had a five-year affair with cavalry officer James Hewitt while married to Prince Charles.
Harry – who is  this weekend – has been dogged by rumours Hewitt is his real dad ever since.
The main evidence put forward for the claim is Harry’s red hair and the roguish streak he shares with Hewitt.

WHO'S YOUR DADDY? Is Prince Charles (left) or James Hewitt (right) Prince Harry's dad?
But new close analysis of the facial features, body and personality of Harry, Hewitt, Charles and Harry’s granddad, Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh, show the Prince is a Windsor.
A Royal source with expert knowledge of hereditary features has revealed why Harry must be Charles’ son.

“To say they are both ginger is misleading”

The apparent similarities between Harry and Hewitt – who was  last week – have kept the rumour alive since Diana admitted the affair on BBC Panorama back in 1995.
More than 50% of the 1,800 people who responded to a Daily Star Online poll said the retired major was Harry’s dad, compared to just 34% who thought he was Charles’ son.
Although the results must be taken with a pinch of salt as 4% said fellow ginger Ed Sheeran was the culprit, with another 2% fingering Frankie Boyle.

Although both Hewitt and Harry are normally tarred with the same ginger brush, our Royal expert pointed out Harry’s hair is better described as strawberry blond with a red beard.
His eyebrows and eyelashes are light and his eyes are blue.
In contrast, Hewitt’s hair is a darker brown, with brown eyebrows and brown eyes.
Although neither Diana nor Charles were redheads, Diana’s brother Earl Spencer is, so Diana could have been carrying ginger genes.
