HARMONY

Now this Traken Web of Harmony is broken.

I am Free!

Dr. Disco :

(to The Master)

The last time I saw you,

you were on your way to Gallifrey.

MASTER:

Well, I didn't stay.

Why would I stay?

Dr. Disco :

So they cured your little condition and kicked you out.

MASTER:

It was a mutual kicking-me-out.

(Bored Missy is repairing her lip gloss.)

Dr. Disco :

Somehow you ended up in this dump.

You never could drive.

MASTER:

Meh. You wouldn't understand.

Dr. Disco :

Well, let's see how I do :-

Your TARDIS got stuck.

You killed a lot of people,

took over The City,

lived like A King until

They rebelled against

Your Cruelty.

And ever since then

You've been hiding out,

probably in disguise,

because everybody knows

your stupid round face.

MASTER:

Round?

MISSY:

It's a little bit.

MASTER:

Shut up! Do you want to see My City, Doctor

Do you want to see what happens when you're too late to save your little friend and everybody else?

(He wheels the Doctor to the parapet to watch the columns of people being escorted by patients.)

MASTER:

See? This used to be just a hospital.

Now it's mass production.

The Cyber Foundries.

MISSY:

The whole City is a Machine

to turn people into Cybermen.

What do you think? Exciting, isn't it?

Watching the Cybermen getting started.

Dr. Disco :

They always get started.

They happen everywhere there's people

Mondas, Telos, Earth,

Planet 14, Marinus.

Like sewage and smartphones

and Donald Trump,

some things are

just inevitable.

(Missy notices an aerial is pulsing out a signal.)

MISSY:

Doctor. Doctor, have you done something?

What's happening?

Dr. Disco :

People get the Cybermen wrong.

There's no evil plan, no evil genius.

Just parallel evolution.

MASTER:

Doctor, what have you done?

Dr. Disco :

(People + Technology) — Humanity.

The Internet, Cyberspace, Cybermen.

Always read the comments

because one day, They'll be an army.

MISSY:

Look, they're coming.

They're coming for us!

MASTER:

This doesn't make any sense!

Dr. Disco :

Doesn't it?

MASTER

These Cybermen are primitive.

They're programmed to

track human beings and convert them.

They home in on human life signs only.

Dr. Disco :

You two, you should know by now.

When you're winning,

and I'm in the room,

you're missing something.

MASTER

What have we missed?

Dr. Disco :

You shouldn't have hit me, Missy.

I was waiting for my chance.

Computer, containing the algorithm defining human life signs.

I only had time to change one detail.

A single number.

One to a two.

One heart to two hearts.

I expanded the definition of Humanity.

Took 'em a while to update the net, but here we go.

Welcome to the menu!

(Cybermen are stomping up the stairs to the now floodlit roof.)

Dr. Disco :

Now they think that we count as humans,

and they're going to fix that in a hurry!

(Missy sonicks the doors shut. The Master sonicks a Cyberman that has come up the fire escape and sets its chest unit on fire.)

MASTER:

There must be other ways up here.

We can't cover them all.

Dr. Disco :

You can't fight a whole city.

You know the stories.

There's only ever been one way

to stop that many Cybermen. Me!

(The Master sonicks another Cyberman then goes to the Doctor.)

MASTER:

Then do it.

Stop them!

Dr. Disco :

Begging for your life already?

That's a new record.

MASTER:

I'm not begging you

I'd rather die than beg

you

Dr. Disco :

Lucky day, then.

MASTER:

I can do this.

They're not difficult.

They're Cybermen.

Dr. Disco :

Knock yourself out.

(Missy pirouettes and KO's the Master with her parasol.)

MISSY:

Your wish is my command.

(She unties the Doctor.)

MISSY:

I was secretly on your side

all along, you silly sausage.

Dr. Disco :

Is that True?

MISSY:

Don't spoil the moment.

Dr. Disco :

Seriously, I need to know. Is that True?

(He holds Missy's hand.)

MISSY

It's hard to say.

I, I'm in two minds.

Fortunately, the other one's unconscious.

MASTER:

I landed here.

I had trouble taking off.

MISSY:

The black hole?

MASTER:

Too close to the event horizon.

MISSY:

And you screwed up.

You went too fast.

MASTER:

I blew the dematerialisation circuit.

MISSY:

Which reminds me.

A funny thing happened to me once.

MASTER:

What?

(She grabs his lapels and pushes him against a pillar.)

MISSY

A very long time ago, a very scary lady threw me against a wall and made me promise to always, always carry a spare dematerialisation circuit.

I don't remember much about her now but, she must have made quite an impression.

(And takes a dematerialisation circuit out of her jacket pocket.)

MASTER

You know you basically have me to thank for this.

MISSY

You're welcome.

MASTER

By the way, is it wrong that I er —

(They both glance down.)

MISSY:

Yes. Very.

Friday 18 December 2020

A whole empire held together by people just being terribly nice to each other.

Yes, we have indeed been visited by Evil many times.

Our compassion for these poor distorted creatures seems to attract them like moths to

A Flame.

Sometimes they are redeemed.

The Fosters are the guardians of the spiritual welfare of our capital.

They name such creatures

Melkur.

Melkur. Literally, 'a fly caught by honey'.

The Fosters know there's nothing to fear from these visitations.

It's baleful influence will not extend beyond The Grove,

and even here it will only produce a few weeds.

Like others before it,

the creature will calcify

and pass harmlessly into

The Soil.

But the demise of any living thing is painful to us.

"I, nearing the time of my passing,

Bless the marriage of these two,

Tremas and Kassia,

truest of my five true consuls,

together with Nyssa,

now daughter to you both.

KASSIA:

I speak for the many peoples of

The Traken Union.

They ask why crops fail,

why droughts and floods

disturb our planets.

And now, violent death

in the very precinct of

The Court itself.

What do we tell them?

SERON:

Normal events, Consul,

when the span of Our Keeper

nears its end.

KASSIA :

NOTHING is normal

at such a time.

This Keeper,

whose protection we have

enjoyed for a thousand years,

is dying.

The Power is growing

weaker day by day.

TREMAS:

Trakens have survived

times like this in The Past.

We shall do so now,

through Science and Understanding.

KASSIA:

Brave words, husband,

but no great comfort to a people

being stripped of their

Traditional Protections.

SERON:

The Keeper knows our situation.

He'll speak when the time is right.

DOCTOR:

All right, all right, Melkur.

There's no need to show off your powers as Keeper.

We know what you can do.

MELKUR:

Only a beginning, Doctor.

Persuade your friend to cooperate.

DOCTOR:

Tremas, why don't you do as he asks?

It's only a bit of paper

after all.

You know why he wants it.

He doesn't want you to show it to me.

Have you eaten?

DRACULA :
I've worked up an appetite.
Good thing there are Two of You.

VAN HELSING :
No.

Puts an Ice-Pick to her own jugular --

Under NO circumstances are there
Two of Us.

Take Mina, lose me.

I know you don't like to drink The Blood of The Dead.

DRACULA :
You'd die to save this Terrified Child?

VAN HELSING :
I'd die to save ANY Terrified Child.

DRACULA :
Why?

VAN HELSING :
Because I'm Not Like You.
There's a Nobler Purpose to My Life than simply prolonging it.

Settle for Her, or Take Me and LEARN Something.

VAN HELSING :

AFFECTION

I begin with the humblest and most widely diffused of loves, the love in which our experience seems to differ least from that of the animals. Let me add at once that I do not on that account give it a lower value. Nothing in Man is either worse or better for being shared with the beasts. When we blame a man for being “a mere animal,” we mean not that he displays animal characteristics (we all do) but that he displays these, and only these, on occasions where the specifically human was demanded. (When we call him “brutal” we usually mean that he commits cruelties impossible to most real brutes; they’re not clever enough.)

The Greeks called this love storge (two syllables and the g is “hard”). I shall here call it simply Affection. My Greek Lexicon defines storge as “affection, especially of parents to offspring”; but also of offspring to parents. And that, I have no doubt, is the original form of the thing as well as the central meaning of the word. The image we must start with is that of a mother nursing a baby, a bitch or a cat with a basketful of puppies or kittens; all in a squeaking, nuzzling heap together; purrings, lickings, baby-talk, milk, warmth, the smell of young life.

The importance of this image is that it presents us at the very outset with a certain paradox. The Need and Need-love of the young is obvious; so is the Gift-love of the mother. She gives birth, gives suck, gives protection. On the other hand, she must give birth or die. She must give suck or suffer. That way, her Affection too is a Need-love. There is the paradox. It is a Need-love but what it needs is to give. It is a Gift-love but it needs to be needed. We shall have to return to this point.

But even in animal life, and still more in our own, Affection extends far beyond the relation of mother and young. This warm comfortableness, this satisfaction in being together, takes in all sorts of objects. It is indeed the least discriminating of loves. There are women for whom we can predict few wooers and men who are likely to have few friends. They have nothing to offer. But almost anyone can become an object of Affection; the ugly, the stupid, even the exasperating. There need be no apparent fitness between those whom it unites. I have seen it felt for an imbecile not only by his parents but by his brothers. It ignores the barriers of age, sex, class and education. It can exist between a clever young man from the university and an old nurse, though their minds inhabit different worlds. It ignores even the barriers of species. We see it not only between dog and man but, more surprisingly, between dog and cat. Gilbert White claims to have discovered it between a horse and a hen.

Perfect-10
The Paradox is Broken.
We've reverted back, one year and one day.
Two minutes past eight in the morning.

UNIT CENTRAL
This is UNIT Central. What's Happened up there?
We just saw the President assassinated.

Perfect-10
Just after the President was killed,
but just before the spheres arrived.

Everything Back to Normal.
Planet Earth restored.

None of it Happened.
The Rockets, The Terror.
It never was.

MARTHA
What about the spheres?

Perfect-10 :
Trapped at The End of The Universe.

FRANCINE:
But I can remember it.

Perfect-10
We're at the eye of the storm.
The only ones who'll ever know.

Oh, hello.  You must be Mister Jones.
We haven't actually met.

(The Master runs for the door just as Jack is coming in.)

JACK
Whoa, big fella! You don't want to miss The Party. Cuffs.
So, what do we do with this one?

CLIVE
We kill him.

TISH
We execute him.

Perfect-10
No, that's not The Solution.

(Francine aims the pistol at The Master.)

FRANCINE
Oh, I think so.

Because all those things,
They Still Happened because of him

I Saw Them.

The Burning Man
Go on. Do it.

Perfect-10
Francine, you're better than him.

(The Doctor gets Francine to lower the gun and he hugs her, then hands her off to Martha.)

The Burning Man
You still haven't answered The Question.
What Happens to me?

Perfect-10
You're My Responsibility from now on.
The only Time Lord left in existence.

JACK
Yeah, but you can't Trust him.

Perfect-10
No. The only safe place for him is The TARDIS.

The Burning Man :
You mean you're just going to keep me?

Perfect-10
Mmm. If that's what I have to do.
It's time to change.

Maybe I've been wandering for too long.
Now I've got Someone to Care for.

(Lucy shoots The Master. The Doctor catches him as he staggers back.)

JACK
Put it down.

Perfect-10 :
There you go. I've got you. I've got you.

The Burning Man
Always The Women.

Perfect-10 :
 I didn't see her.

The Burning Man
Dying in your arms.
Happy now?

Perfect-10
You're not dying. Don't be stupid.
It's only a bullet. Just regenerate.

The Burning Man
No.

Perfect-10
One little bullet. Come on.

The Burning Man :
I guess you don't know me so well. I refuse.

Perfect-10 :
Regenerate. Just regenerate. Please.
Please! Just regenerate. Come on.

Burning Man :
And spend the rest of my life imprisoned with you?

Perfect-10 :
You've got to. Come on.

It can't end like this.
You and Me --
All The Things We've Done.

Axons. Remember the Axons?
And the Daleks.

We're The Only Two left.
There's no one else. Regenerate!

Burning Man :
 How about that. I win.
Will it stop, Doctor?

The Drumming. Will it stop?

(The Master dies.)

Perfect-10 :
No!

(Somewhere, later, the Doctor lights the Master's funeral pyre then walks away.

TheRed+TheBlack

It was beautiful.
They used to call it the Shining World of the Seven Systems.

And on the Continent of Wild Endeavour, in the Mountains of Solace and Solitude, there stood the Citadel of the Time Lords, the oldest and most mighty race in the universe, looking down on the galaxies below.
Sworn never to interfere, only to watch.
Children of Gallifrey, are taken from their families age of 8 to enter The Academy.

And some say that's when it all began. When he was a child.

That's when The Master saw eternity.

Miss Demeaner

As a novice, he was taken for initiation.

He stood in front of the Untempered Schism.

It's a gap in the fabric of reality through which could be seen the whole of the vortex.

You stand there, 8 years old, staring at the raw power of Time and Space, just a child.

Some would be inspired, some would run away -

And some would go mad....

She was my first friend, always so brilliant, from the first day at the Academy.

So fast, so funny.
She was my man crush.

We had a pact, me and him.
Every star in the universe,
we were going to see them all.

But he was too busy burning them.

I don't think she ever saw anything...
