Morpheus, The Hopeless Prophet

It was a lie, Morpheus.

Morpheus:
The Matrix is a System, Neo.
That System is Our Enemy

But when you’re inside, you look around —
What do you see?

Business people, teachers, lawyers, carpenters.

The very minds of The People We are Trying to Save

But until we do, these people are still a part of That System,
and that makes them Our Enemy.

You have to understand,
most of these people
are not ready to be unplugged.

[ and most of them never will be. ]

And many of them are so inured,
so hopelessly dependent on The System
that they will fight to protect it.

[ and why not? Why shouldn't they? ]

Were you listening to me, Neo?
Or were you looking at The Woman in The Red Dress?

Neo:
I was…

Morpheus:
Look again.
Freeze it.

Neo:
This…this isn’t The Matrix?

Morpheus:
No. It’s another training program
designed to teach you one thing.

If You are Not One of Us, you are one of Them.

Neo:
What are They?

Morpheus:
Sentient Programs.
They can move in and out of any software
still hard-wired to Their System.

That means that anyone we haven’t unplugged
is potentially An Agent.

[ and also Cypher. Who you unplugged personally -- because he choses to be An Agent of The System and is completely fed up to the back teeth of you and all your bullshit (and he's RIGHT.) ]

Inside The Matrix,
They are Everyone and They are No One.

[ But never THE One -- Jam Yesterday, Jam Tomorrow but never Jam Today. ]

We are survived by hiding from them by running from them.

But they are The Gatekeepers.

They are guarding all the doors.
They are holding all the keys,
which means that sooner or later,
someone is going to have to fight them.

Neo:
Someone?

Morpheus:
I won’t lie to you, Neo.

Every single man or woman who has stood their ground,
everyone who has fought an agent has died.

But where they have failed,
you will succeed.

Neo:
Why?

Morpheus:
I’ve seen an agent punch through a concrete wall.
Men have emptied entire clips at them and hit nothing but air.

Yet their strength and their speed are still based in a world that is built on rules

Because of that, They will never be as strong or as fast as you can be.

Neo:
What are you trying to tell me, that I can dodge bullets?

Morpheus:
No Neo -- I’m trying to tell you that when you’re ready,

You Won’t Have To.

HAMMER

Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created The Waster to destroy.

Isaiah 54:16

Du mußt Amboß oder Hammer sein
“You must be Anvil or Hammer”

Oracle:
You are a Bastard.

Smith:
You would know, Mom.

Oracle:
Do what you’re here to do.

Smith:
Yes, ma’am.

Smith is aboard The Hammer

The Mjolnir (AKA the Hammer) is a Zion hovercraft. The ship's named is derived from Mjolnir (crusher), the hammer of the Norse thunder god, Thor. Because of this, most characters refer to the ship as the "Hammer". It is the largest hovercraft in the Zion fleet, thus making it extremely difficult to maneuver around tight spaces.

After the failed EMP wave, the Mjolnir picked up Bane, who appears to be the only survivor of the battle between the Sentinels and the Zion fleet, but has in fact been taken over by Smith and murdered everyone on the Caduceus.

Shortly later they located the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar after their ship is destroyed by a Sentinel tow bomb.

Against Captain Roland's better judgment, Niobe lets Neo and Trinity (and a stowed-away Bane) take the Logos in an attempt to reach the Machine City.

With the remaining crew of the Nebuchadnezzar and the Logos, the Mjolnir races back to Zion, relying on Niobe's piloting skills to steer the ship through the narrow mechanical tunnels. Reaching the city as it is under attack by thousands of Sentinels, and with their communications antenna destroyed, the Mjolnir crash lands in Zion's Dock and sets off its EMP. This destroys the attacking Sentinels, but as an angry Commander Lock warns Roland and Morpheus, they have also crippled the city's defenses against any subsequent attacks.

Except for Roland, all members of the crew have gun-related names: "Maggie" is short for "magazine" or "Magnum"); AK is named after the Kalashnikov series of assault rifles; Colt is related to the famous Colt's Manufacturing Company's guns; Mauser is named after a German arms manufacturer.

The Mjolnir's commissioning plaque reads "Mark XIV No. 62[1] Made in the USA Year 2111".

It is not known how the ship was constructed after the victory of the Machines. Possibly it was constructed in Zion, not USA

Men Also Bleed

“If it bleeds, We can Kill it.”

Laurence Fishburne suggested that his character remove his sunglasses for the fight with the agent on board the tractor-trailer, to remind the audience of Morpheus' fight with Agent Smith in The Matrix (1999) (during which he wears no sunglasses), and to better express his character's vulnerability.

i

Rodney :
What are you doing,
winding him up?

Del-Boy :
Yeah, yeah, I'm winding him up aren't I.
I'm winding him up!

Rodney :
Del, he only wants to stay for a couple of nights, and get himself sorted out!

Del-Boy :
He's a Trotter Rodney.

Rodney :
We're Trotters!

Del-Boy :
Yes I know, but we
take after Mum in Nature.
He's from Dad's Side of The Family!
You know what they're like.
You offer 'em a cup of tea and they think you've adopted 'em.

Look at that time when
Dad came round here
he wanted to stay 'one' night!
Took us nigh on a fortnight
to get rid of him!

Rodney :
Uncle Albert might not be like that!

Del-Boy :
Oh leave it out Rodney!
You've heard him yourself when he was telling us about that time he came round the Cape of Good Hope, he was three months on the same wave!

Rodney :
I don't believe you Del,
I do not believe that you of all people, could!

Del-Boy :
Where do you think you're going?

Rodney :
I'm going down the caff, I'm gonna get some grub
and some better company!
....I'm gonna put some clothes on first!
You've changed Del!

Del-Boy :
Yeah, well it's about time you did,
come on, we've got to
go down the market later on.

Rodney :
No, I mean your personality has changed!
I've seen a side of you I never knew existed

Del-Boy :
You don't understand Rodney!

Rodney :
You're right about that Del!
I mean, look at you last night, you was laughing you was drinking, I mean, why didn't you just put yer Boney M record on Del, we could have had a good old knees up!
It was Grandad's—
How could you get over it so easily?

Del-Boy :
Get over it?
What a plonker you •really• are Rodney!
Get over it...!!
I ain't even started yet!!!
Ain't even started bruv!

And d'you know why
Because I don't know how to!!!

That's why I've survived all
my life with a smile and a prayer!
I'm Del Boy ain't I!

Good old Del Boy - he's got more bounce than Zebedee!

'Ere you are pal, what you drinking?
Go on! Hello darling,
you have one for luck!!'
That's me, that's Del Boy innit?

Nothing ever upsets Del Boy.

I've always played the tough guy!
I didn't want to, but I had to —

And I've played it for so long now,
I don't know how to be anything else!
I don't even know how to—

Oh it don't matter!
Bloody families!
I've finished with 'em!

What Do They Do to You, eh?

They hold you back, drag you down......
and then they break yer bloody heart...
I'm sorry.

Del-Boy :
Listen to me, Raquel —

Raquel :
No.
You listen to me.
You've got to make contact with reality.
Everything with you is image.
I saw you in the pub.
We're broke and you threw money around like Elton John.
And instead of finding work, you sit in this flat pretending to be Quentin Tarantino.
When we're in the Capri, you have the windows up, even in a heatwave, to make it look like you've got air conditioning!

Del-Boy :
I know I'm not perfect....

Raquel :
That is the understatement of the year!
Unless a miracle happens, in ten days' time, my son and I are going to be living in some bed and breakfast in Sodoffsville!

Del-Boy :
If it's a miracle you want, then I'm your man.
I'm chairman of Miracles R Us.

Raquel :
You're a Man, Del!
You'll never understand.
Just remember, only women bleed.

Del-Boy :
Cor blimey! Only women bleed! Gordon Bennett!

I am not a Control Freak.
It's just that I have had no choice.

Do you realise that when I was 16, my old man walked out
and left me and Rodney with our daft old granddad?

He tried his best, but he wasn't up to it.

So I had to take over and I've been doing it ever since
and I can't get out of the habit.

Raquel :
I'm gonna have a lie-down.
All right?

Del-Boy :
Yeah.
Fine.

Raquel and I have had a quiet little chat.

Rodney :
Yeah, I heard.
You got somewhere to stay after the auction?

Del-Boy :
Trigger said I could doss down at his place.
There's not much room, what with all those "X-File" videos and chopsticks.

Oh, dear.
Women.

Do you know what Raquel said?
Only women bleed.

Blimey! She ought to be outside the Nag's Head
on a Saturday night.

They reckon they suffer.
They don't know what it's like to be a bloke.

They worry about their PMT.
Us men worry about —

Rodney :
Our MOT?

Del-Boy :
Yes.
Do they listen to us?

Rodney :
No, they don't.

Del-Boy :
No, they don't.
She'll never meet another bloke like me, will she?

Rodney :
No, she won't.

Del-Boy :
That's it, Rodney.
Once the flat is auctioned we'll go our separate ways.
I won't see her again.

Rodney :
Del, don't say that.

Del-Boy :
No.
That's it.
She won't be able to get round me.
When my mind is made up,
my mind is made up!

Raquel :
Del?

Del-Boy :
Yes.

Raquel :
I just said I'm going for a lie-down.

Del-Boy :
She's — She's all right really.
She's lovely, isn't she, eh?

Rodney :
Yeah.
She's lovely.

ORION FIGHTS FOR EARTH !!

“Jack “King” Kirby was the most influential superhero artist of them all, with an imagination and range that sat comfortably inside a visionary tradition running all the way from Hebrew scriptures and epic mythology through William Blake and Allen Ginsberg. Born Jakob Kurtzberg in August 1917—Jack Kirby was the one of his many pennames that stuck—Kirby grew up in a tenement on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. As a member of the Suffolk Street Gang, he was familiar with the thrill of full-on physical conflict in a way that many of his bookish young contemporaries were not. Indeed, unlike Joe Shuster or Bob Kane, who drew fights at a sniffy remove, Kirby dragged his readers directly into the wild flail of fists and boots that typified the real combat he’d experienced.

His figures captured how it felt to somersault through a crowd of antagonists. His heroes and villains clashed in bony, meaty brawls that could sprawl across page after page. Superman might wrestle a giant ape for a panel or two, but in Kirby’s hands, the fight scenes were a thrilling end in themselves.

Kirby served in World War II as a private first class in Company F of the Eleventh Infantry. He landed on Omaha Beach at Normandy two months after D-day in 1944 and proceeded with his unit into occupied France. There he saw action at the battle for Bastogne, Belgium, enduring frostbite so severe that Kirby almost lost both feet and was finally mustered out with a combat infantry badge and Bronze Star for his trouble. His memories of the war informed his work for the rest of his life, but nonetheless, Kirby portrayed violence as a joyous expression of natural masculine exuberance.

When American Nazis marched into the building where Simon and Kirby had their studio, demanding the blood of the Captain America creative team, it was Jack who rolled up his sleeves and went to sort them out."

“As the monster-child, Orion, grew to manhood on New Genesis, his life dramatized debates of nature versus nurture, good versus evil, youth versus age, tyranny versus freedom. Kirby was dealing with the big dualities and had assembled his own gleaming pantheon to help him articulate the questions of the age.

Kirby told us that humanity’s better nature would inevitably prevail. That was the story, and we all knew it deep in our hearts. Kindness and understanding could turn even a demon into a holy warrior, but an angel could never be broken to the Devil’s service and would always find ways to soar and to be free.

The war would never end, but the outcome was never in any doubt.”

BILL MOYERS:
The mesmerizing character for me is —

Darth Maul.

When I saw him, I thought of Satan and Lucifer in “Paradise Lost.”
I thought of the devil in “Dante’s Inferno.”
I mean, you’ve really — have brought from
— it seems to me —
from way down in our unconsciousness this image of —
of Evil, of The Other.

GEORGE LUCAS:
Well, yeah.
We were trying to find somebody who could compete with Darth Vader, who’s one of the most, you know, famous evil characters now.

And so we went back into representations of evil.

Not only, the Christian, but also Hindu and Greek mythology and other religious icons and, obviously, then designed our own — our own character out of that.

BILL MOYERS:
What did you find when you went back there in —
in all of these representations?
There’s something …

GEORGE LUCAS:
A lot of — a lot of evil characters have horns
It’s very interesting.
I mean, you’re trying to build a icon of evil,
and you sort of wonder why the same images evoke the same emotions.

BILL MOYERS:
What emotion do you feel, George, when you look at Darth Maul?

GEORGE LUCAS:
I think the first thing you’re supposed to react to is fear

You’re supposed to go,
‘Ooh. You — you wouldn’t want to meet him in a dark alley.'

And I’m not creating a monster.

I didn’t want to create some ugly — somebody ripped out their intestines and threw them all over their head
— and it’s — you can’t watch it.
This is something …

BILL MOYERS:
It’s actually mesmerizing.

GEORGE LUCAS:
This is something that is more —
it works in a different emotional way.
It’s not repulsive, it’s just —

It’s something you should be afraid of.

BILL MOYERS:
Is the emotion you wanted from him different from the emotion you wanted from Darth Vader?

GEORGE LUCAS:
It’s essentially the same in a different kind of way.

Darth Vader was a — a composite man.
I mean, he was half-machine, half-man.

And that’s where he lost a lot of his humanity is that he —
you know, he has mechanical legs.
You know — and he has mechanical arms possibly and he’s hooked up to a breathing machine.

So there’s not much, actually, human left in him.

This one is all human.

And I wanted him to be like an alien, but I wanted him to be human enough that we could identify with him, because he’s not a sort of a monster we can’t identify with. He’s…

BILL MOYERS:
He’s us.

GEORGE LUCAS:
…he’s — yeah.

He’s the evil within us.

BILL MOYERS:
I’ve had psychotherapists tell me that they use “Star Wars” sometimes to deal with the problems of their child patients.

And they’ve said that the most popular character among the children is Darth Vader.

GEORGE LUCAS:
Well, children love power because children are The Powerless.

And so their fantasies all center on having power.

And who’s more powerful than Darth Vader, you know?
And, some, you know, will be attracted to Luke Skywalker because he’s the good guy.

But ultimately,
We all know that Darth Vader’s more powerful than he is.

GEORGE LUCAS:
And as time goes on, you discover that he is more powerful because—

He's The Ultimate Father
Who is All-Powerful.

BILL MOYERS:
This is where I disagree somewhat with our friend Joseph Campbell who said that
The Young Man has to slay his father before he can become an adult himself.

It seems to me, and I think you’re right on here, that

The Young Man has to identify —
has to recognise and acknowledge that

He is His Father
and
Is Not His Father.

GEORGE LUCAS:
You know, Joe used to talk about the basic issues that create
The Mystery of Life.

Of, you know, birth and death
and I like to always add,
 Your relationship with your parents.

BILL MOYERS:
Do you know yet what is going to be the transforming of Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader?

GEORGE LUCAS:
Yeah.

BILL MOYERS:
You already know that?

GEORGE LUCAS:
Yeah, I know what that is.
And it’s sprinkled throughout this episode.
I mean, the groundwork’s been laid in this episode.

And the — the film is ultimately about the Dark Side and the Light Side, and those sides are designed around compassion and greed

And we all have those two sides of us and that we have to make sure that those two sides of us are in balance.

BILL MOYERS:
I think it’s going to be very hard for the audience to accept that this innocent cherub almost of a boy, who’s playing Anakin Skywalker, can ever be capable of the things that we know happen later on.

And I’m sure you’ll take care of that but, you know, I look at Hitler and wonder what did he look like at eight years old, or Stalin …

GEORGE LUCAS:
Mm-hmm …

BILL MOYERS:
… or …

GEORGE LUCAS:
Well, there are lots of — there’s a lot of people like that.
I mean, you just — you see them all the time and you — that’s what I wonder.

I wonder,
'How can those people possibly exist? How could they live with themselves?
[ VODKA ]

How could they — you know, what is it in the human brain that gives us the capacity to be as evil as human beings have been in the past and are right now.

BILL MOYERS:
Well, you’ve been probing that for a good while now.

GEORGE LUCAS:
Yeah.

BILL MOYERS:
Twenty-five years.
Have you come to any conclusions?

GEORGE LUCAS:
I haven’t.

Neo:
I only ask to say What I’ve Come to Say, after that, do what you want and I won’t try to stop you.

Deus Ex Machina:
Speak.

Neo:
The program ‘Smith’ has grown beyond your control.
Soon he will spread through This City as he spread through The Matrix.

You cannot stop him,
but I can.

Deus Ex Machina:
We Don’t Need You.
We Need Nothing.

Neo:
If that’s True, then I’ve made a mistake
and you should kill me now.

Deus Ex Machina:
What Do You Want?

Neo:
PEACE.

(Zion: Temple entrance)

{Sentinels charge the temple entrance, then suddenly stop}

Niobe:
What are they doing?

Morpheus lays down his Weapon

*to Morpheus*
What are you doing!?

Lock:
Morpheus!

(01)
Deus Ex Machina:
And if You Fail?

Neo:
I Won’t.

(Zion: Temple entrance)

Niobe:
{looks up and sees sentinels slowly circling
Neo.

Morpheus:
He Fights for Us.

The Oracle

“ I have a great many responsibilities.
foremost amongst these, however, is my concern for Children.

I am concerned regarding their wellbeing, and the healthy development of their imaginations

I am concerned regarding their behaviour...

..and I’m afraid, Young Man, that I don’t care for you at all."

[Colt]: Yes, sir.
Link: Hey. Hey! We got a call. Operator. It’s Seraph.
Seraph: I bring word from the Oracle. You must come at once.

(Mobil Ave. train station)
Sati: Good morning.
Neo: Who are you?
Sati: My name is Sati. Your name is Neo. My papa says you’re not supposed to be here. He says you must be lost. Are you lost, Neo?
Neo: Where am I?
Sati: This is the train station.
Neo: This isn’t the Matrix?
Sati: That’s where the Train goes. That’s where we’re going. But you cannot go with us.
Neo: Why not?
Sati: He won’t let you.
Neo: Who won’t let me?
Sati: The Trainman. *whispers* I don’t like him, but my Papa says we have to do what the Trainman says or he will leave us here for ever and ever.

(Oracle’s apartment)

Oracle
Morpheus, Trinity.
Thank you for coming.

One thing I’ve learned in all my years is that
nothing ever works out just the way you want it to.

Trinity
Who are you?

Oracle
I’m The Oracle.
I wish there was an easier way to get through this but there ain’t.
I’m sorry this had to happen.
I’m sorry I couldn’t be sitting here like you remember me.
But it wasn’t meant to be.

Trinity:
What happened?

Oracle
I made A Choice,
and that Choice cost me
more than I wanted it to.

Morpheus
What choice?

Oracle
To help you to guide Neo.

Now, since the real test for any choice is
having to make the same choice again,
knowing full well what it might cost –

I guess I feel pretty good about that choice,
’cause here I am, at it again.

Trinity
Do you know what happened to Neo?

Oracle
Yes. He’s trapped in a place between
This World and The Machine World.

The link is controlled by a program called
The Trainman.

He uses it to smuggle programs
in and out of the Matrix.

If he finds out where Neo is
before you get to him,
then I’m afraid our choices are going to become difficult.

Trinity
Why?

Oracle
Because of who the Trainman works for.

Morpheus
The Merovingian.

Oracle
He has placed a bounty on your lives.
You must be careful at all times.

Seraph knows how to find the Trainman,
he will go with you.

For years, he has protected me.
I hope he can do the same for you.

Seraph
Please, come.

Morpheus
Oracle.

Oracle
I know, Morpheus.
I can see you’re filled with doubt,
clouded by uncertainty.

Morpheus
After everything that’s happened,
how can you expect me to believe you?

Oracle
I don’t. I expect just what I’ve always expected :
For you to make up your own damn mind.

Believe Me or Don’t.

All I can really tell you is
Your Friend’s in Trouble
 and
He needs Your Help.

He needs all our help.

(Matrix: inside a car)
Morpheus:
Are you ready for us?

Link:
Almost, sir. They got some pretty ancient hacks here, we’re working on it.
Did you find Neo?

Morpheus:
 Can’t you see him?

Link:
No, sir. We were reading something but I couldn’t tell what it was.

Neo:
I can’t leave yet.

{Trinity looks over at him}
Neo:
I have to see her.

Trinity:
Now?

Neo:
This is my last chance.

(Oracle’s kitchen)
Oracle:

That’s it. That’s The Secret.
You’ve got to use Your Hands.

Sati:
Why?

Oracle
Cookies need love like everything does.

Sati:
Neo!

Oracle:
was hoping to have these done before you got here. Oh well.

Sati, honey, I think it’s time for a tasting.
Take the bowl to Seraph and find out if they’re ready.

Sati:
Okay.
*to Neo*

I’m glad you got out.

Neo:
Me too.

Oracle:
So, do you recognize me?

Neo:
A Part of You.

Oracle:
Yeah, that’s How it Works.

Some bits you lose, some bits you keep.

I don’t yet recognize my face in the mirror, but…

I still love candy.

*offers Neo a piece of red candy*

Neo:
No, thank you.

Oracle:
Remember what you were like when you first walked through my door, jittery as a junebug?

And now just look at you.

You sure did surprise me, Neo,
and you still do.

Neo:
You gave me a few surprises, too.

Oracle:
I hope I helped.

Neo:
You helped me to get here, but my question is why?

Where does this go?
Where does it end?

Oracle:
I don’t know.

Neo:
You don’t know or you won’t tell me?

Oracle:
I told you before.
No one can see beyond a choice they don’t understand, and I mean no one.

Neo:
What choice?

Oracle:
It doesn’t matter. It’s my choice.
I have mine to make, same as you have yours.

Neo:
Does that include What Things to Tell Me
and What Not to Tell Me?

Oracle:
Of course not.

Neo:
Then why didn’t you tell me about
The Architect?

Why didn’t you tell me about Zion,
The Ones before me –

Why didn’t you tell me The Truth?

Oracle:
Because it wasn’t time for you to know.

Neo:
Who decided it wasn’t time?

Oracle:
You know who.

*She points at the Temet Nosce sign above the door*

Neo:
I did.
*Oracle nods*
Then I think it’s time for me to know a few more things.

Oracle:
So do I.

Neo:
Tell me how I separated my mind from my body without jacking in.

Tell me how I stopped four sentinels by thinking it.

Tell me just what the hell is happening to me.

Oracle:
The Power of the One extends beyond This World.

It reaches from here all the way back to
Where it Came From.

Neo:
Where?

Oracle:
The Source.
That’s what you felt when you touched those Sentinels.

But you weren’t ready for it.

You should be Dead
but apparently
you weren’t ready for that, either.

Neo:
The Architect told me that if I didn’t return to The Source, Zion would be destroyed by midnight tonight.

Oracle:
*rolls eyes
Please… You and I may not be able to see beyond Our Own Choices,
but That Man can’t see past any choices.

Neo:
Why not?

Oracle:
He doesn’t understand them – he can’t.

To him they are variables in an equation.

One at a time each variable must be
solved and countered.

That’s His Purpose
To Balance An Equation.

Neo:
What’s your purpose?

Oracle:
To unbalance it.

Neo:
Why? What do you want?

Oracle:
I want the same thing you want, Neo.
And I am willing to go as far as you are to get it.

Neo:
The end of the war.
*Oracle nods*
Is it going to end?
Oracle: One way, or another.

Neo:
Can Zion be saved?

Oracle:
I’m sorry, I don’t have the answer to that question, but if there’s An Answer, there’s only one place you’re going to find it.

Neo:
Where?

Oracle:
You know where.

And if you can’t find The Answer,
then I’m afraid there may be no tomorrow for any of us.

Neo:
What does that mean?

Oracle:
Everything that has a beginning has an end.

I see the end coming.
I see the darkness spreading. I see death.
And you are all that stands in his way.

Neo:
Smith.

Oracle:
*nods*

Very soon he’s going to have the power to destroy This World,
but I believe he won’t stop there; he can’t

He won’t stop until there’s nothing left at all.

Neo:
What is he?

Oracle:

He is You.

 Your opposite, your negative,
The Result of The Equation trying to balance itself out.

Neo:
What if I can’t stop him?

Oracle:
One way or another, Neo,
This War is going to end

Tonight, the future of both worlds will be in your hands… or in his.
