But We Are a Superstitious Nation —

We forgo the vengeance of our troops and civilians in The Long War -- But We have selfish reasons. All right -- We have to make arrangements to make this border work -- cleared of all these false charges and complications. 

But I'm a superstitious man -- and if some unlucky accident should befall either nation -- if either the Republican or Loyalist Paramilitaries should suddenly, somehow acquire a vast new arsenal of weaponry and ordinance -- or if any remaining paramilitary prisoner -- should hang himself in his jail cell -- or if one British Policeman, Soldier or Civilian is struck by a bolt of LIGHTNING -- then We’re going to BLAME some of the people in Berlin, Brussels and Strasbourg. 

And that — That, We Do NOT Forgive.

But -- that aside -- let me say that We Swear -- on the souls of our grandchildren -- that We will not be the one to break the peace that we have made here today...
